used as the command headquarters for the bloody Battle of Franklin in 1864. Today you can tour the house and battlefield, where you can see traces of more than 1000 bullet holes. Nearby Carnton Plantation, a white-columned brick manse, became the field hospital for scores of wounded Confederate soldiers. Take a guided tour of the house and see the rows of graves in the Civil War cemetery. From Nashville, take I-65 South towards Huntsville and take exit 65 to Hwy 96 for Franklin/Murfreesboro. Continue on Murfreesboro Rd into downtown.
