Clinton et al., first filed in 1990 and dismissed in 1992 at docket number 9–746 (in which Nichols alleged wrongful termination against then-Governor Clinton and in the process asserted that Clinton had extramarital affairs with numerous women, including Gennifer Flowers), and Benita T. Jones v. William “Bill” Clinton et al., at docket no. 92–352, originally filed in 1991 but refiled in 1992 to include Clinton as a defendant (alleging a conspiracy to engage in a variety of conduct, including sexual harassment). Both cases were dismissed.

He also quipped: Lois Romano, “U.S. Judge’s Husband Talks About Jones Case,” Washington Post, 9 Feb. 1998. From the earliest stages of the Jones litigation, Judge Wright’s husband was known for speaking to journalists on these topics, often off-the-record.

Bob Bennett was also busy: Affidavit of Carol Phillips, 27 June 1994. Paula Jones herself later filed a sworn declaration alleging that on one occasion, Governor Clinton had run into her in the Rotunda of the Arkansas State Capitol, “accosted” her, and then draped his arm around her and said to his bodyguard, “Don’t we make a beautiful couple: Beauty and the Beast?” (Declaration of Paula Jones, 11 Mar. 1998). This encounter, if it occurred, arguably cut both ways. Bennett was in a position to argue that Jones repeatedly sought out opportunities to run into the governor and enjoyed the attention.
