Paula Jones herself later filed a sworn declaration alleging that on one occasion, Governor Clinton had run into her in the Rotunda of the Arkansas State Capitol, “accosted” her, and then draped his arm around her and said to his bodyguard, “Don’t we make a beautiful couple: Beauty and the Beast?” (Declaration of Paula Jones, 11 Mar. 1998). This encounter, if it occurred, arguably cut both ways. Bennett was in a position to argue that Jones repeatedly sought out opportunities to run into the governor and enjoyed the attention.
