evidence related to the Lewinsky: Toobin, A Vast Conspiracy, 271. Judge Wright fell short of declaring that the Lewinsky evidence was totally irrelevant and immaterial in the Jones case. Instead, she took a more nuanced approach, ruling that any “probative” value of the evidence was outweighed by “the possibility of prejudice” vis-à-vis a potential jury. Ironically, Starr’s office had forced Judge Wright’s hand on this issue. OIC had filed a motion demanding that the Arkansas judge suspend discovery in the parallel Jones litigation to stop the Dallas lawyers from shadowing Starr’s investigation and subpoenaing witnesses OIC called to the grand jury. Judge Wright had chosen to deal with the problem in a different way—she had issued a succinct order declaring that “evidence concerning Monica Lewinsky should be excluded [entirely] from the trial of this matter.”
