Poipu Plantation Budget vacationers looking for an old-fashioned bed-and-breakfast (with real breakfast, not food items in your refrigerator)—here’s your place. This tropical property has three bed-and-breakfast rooms in the main house and separate apartment vacation rentals on the same property. The large rooms in the house are reminiscent of the old plantation days, with shining wooden floors, huge bathrooms, and lots of privacy. Breakfast is served in the dining room; you’re also welcome to take yours out on the lanai. The impeccably decorated one- and two-bedroom apartments are huge and come with big lanais, spacious living rooms, large separate bedrooms (with shoji doors), full kitchens, and big bathrooms. Gleaming hardwood floors, air-conditioning, and ocean views add to the value. The location also offers value, in the heart of Poipu, within walking distance of beach and water activities, golfing, tennis, shops, and restaurants.

Pua Hale at Poipu Created by an artist and designed by an engineer, Pua Hale is a large (850 sq.ft.) cottage on a quiet dead-end street, just 2 blocks from Poipu Beach. Artist/photographer Carol Ann Davis and her husband, engineer Walter Briant, took an empty space in their yard and created an open, airy cottage with an Asian-influenced interior. The cottage is surrounded by a high fence to ensure privacy; entrance is through a rustic wooden gate draped with colorful bougainvillea. Sliding glass doors run nearly the entire length of the cottage, bringing the outside in. The open-beam ceiling and white-tile floors add to the overall feeling of lightness, and the wood trim, rattan furniture, and colorful throw rugs add to the island vibe. The large main room has a complete kitchen at one end, and living and dining areas (with a queen-size sofa bed) at the other. The bathroom has a wonderful tiled Japanese furo (sunken tub) for soaking as well as a shower. A real bonus is the intimate, curved lanai overlooking Japanese gardens blooming with ginger, heliconia, and plumeria. Other pluses include a barbecue, a stereo, and laundry facilities. Walk to Poipu beaches, shopping, and restaurants.
