Located just 10 minutes from Lihue Airport, in the town of Waipouli, this 311-room resort was totally refurbished in 2005 when Courtyard by Marriott rebranded the old Kauai Coconut Beach Resort. In 2006, ResortQuest took over the property, which sits on 11 acres, nestled between a coconut grove and a white-sand beach, and renovated the open-air lobby (complete with stained-glass artwork depicting a sailing canoe, plus a two-story mural chronicling Kauai’s sailing history and a 20th-century replica of a Hawaiian voyaging canoe), upgrading the landscaping and restaurant. In 2009, Aston Hotels & Resorts took over the property management. The resort features a large swimming pool with hot tub, day spa, business center, fitness center, tennis courts, jogging paths, lounge (with nightly entertainment), and expanded restaurant. The large guest rooms were gutted and redecorated with a Hawaiian theme, and include such amenities as hardwood furniture and a 27-inch television.

Lae Nani Outrigger Resort Condominium The Lae Nani (“beautiful promontory point”) offers a quiet, relaxing setting right on the beach, next door to restaurants and bars. On the point is the Kukui Heiau, where an ancient temple once stood. The one- and two-bedroom units are roomy with large living rooms, separate dining rooms, complete kitchens, and generous lanais. The two-bedroom/two-bathroom units can easily fit a family of six. Maid service is provided daily. Extras include a swimming pool, lava-rock-protected swimming area, barbecue facilities, tennis courts, and self-service laundry facilities. Next door is the Coconut Marketplace, with shops, restaurants, and nightlife; a golf course is nearby. This is a totally nonsmoking property; no smoking is allow anywhere on the property. The only caveat I found is that the units are individually owned (and decorated); however, the website does not show the individual units, so what you see on the website may not be what you get.

Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort & Spa The lap of luxury, this $200-million condominium project on 13 acres (between the historic towns of Wailua and Kapaa) is located right on the beach within walking distance to restaurants, shops, and recreational activities. The resort, which opened in 2007, features six hotel rooms, and 190 high-end condo units (153 two-bedroom/three-bathroom units and 37 one-bedroom/two-bathroom units), of which 130 units are in the rental pool (75% are the two-bedroom units). Each unit is furnished with top-of-the-line materials like granite countertops; stainless steel appliances by Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Fisher/Paykel; double dishwasher; full-size Whirlpool washer/dryer; whirlpool bathtub in the master bathroom; and 37-inch flatscreen TV in the living room and both bedrooms. The two-bedroom units are 1,300 square feet with floor-to-ceiling windows and two lanais.

The resort features a long list of amenities like complimentary Wi-Fi, a 4,000-square-foot Aveda spa, a fitness center, and a 300,000-gallon heated saltwater fantasy pool, with flowing river, garden, dual serpentine waterslides, sand-bottom children’s pool, and three sand-bottom whirlpool tubs.
