Trapper Inn
235 N. Cache, Jackson, WY 83001. ☎ 800/ 341-8000 or 307/733-2648 for reservations. www.trapperinn.com. 54 units. $107–$179 double. AE, DC, DISC, MC, V.
The employees here are among the most helpful in Jackson. Just 2 short blocks from downtown Jackson, the Trapper is hard to miss if you're walking north on Cache from the Town Square—on the left side of Cache, you'll notice the bronze Trapper guy on the sign. Though the decor is undistinguished, the rooms are luxuriously spacious. They come with miniature refrigerators, microwaves, and coffeemakers; laundry facilities and an indoor/outdoor hot tub are also on hand.
Virginian Lodge
750 W. Broadway, Jackson, WY 83001. ☎ 800/262-4999 or 307/733-2792. Fax 307/733-4063. www.virginianlodge.com. 170 units. $95–$109 double; $125–$185 suite. AE, DC, DISC, MC, V.
It's not brand new, it's not a resort, and it doesn't have a golf course, but the Virginian is one of the better motels in Jackson. Located on the busy Broadway strip, the courtyard seems a world away, and the prices remain reasonable. All in all, it's a busy, cheerful place to stay. A large outdoor pool is open seasonally, and you can get a room with a private Jacuzzi. Kids can romp in the arcade, and parents can relax in the Virginian Saloon.
Wort Hotel 50 N. Glenwood, Jackson, WY 83001. ☎ 307/ 733-2190. www.worthotel.com. 60 units. $165–$275 double; $325–$550 suite. AE, DISC, MC, V.
On Broadway just off the Town Square, the Wort stands like an old tree. Opened in the early 1940s by the sons of Charles Wort, an early-20th-century homesteader, the Tudor-style two-story building was largely rebuilt after a 1980 fire. Nowadays it has an old-fashioned style, both in the relaxed Silver Dollar Bar (distinctively graced with 2,032 silver dollars) and the quiet, formal dining room. In the manner of an old cattle-baron hotel, the lobby holds a warm, romantic fireplace; another fireplace and a huge, hand-carved mural accent a mezzanine sitting area, providing a second hideaway. The rooms aren't Tudor at all—the Wort labels them "New West." Brass number plates and door-knobs welcome you into comfortable, air-conditioned guest rooms, which have modern decor, thick carpeting, and armoires. The Silver Dollar Suite features a wet bar inlaid with the same silver dollars found in the bar below.

Amangani
1535 NE Butte Rd., Jackson, WY 83002 (on top of East Gros Ventre Butte). ☎ 877/734-7333 or 307/734-7333. www.amangani resorts.com. 40 units. $750–$1,300 double. AE, DC, DISC, MC, V.
Chopped into the side of East Gros Ventre Butte, Amangani's rough rock exterior blends in so well that the lights from its windows and pool appear to glow from within the mountain. The style is understated and rustic, but every detail is expensively done. Owner Adrian Zecha has resorts like this around the world, from Bali to Bora Bora; although the designs are tailored to the landscape, the approach is the same: personal service, luxury, and all the little touches—such as CDs in every guest room, cashmere throws on the day beds, and slate and redwood walls. There are an outdoor pool, tennis courts, a health center, and a restaurant, the Grill, that serves steaks, seafood, and regional organic foods.
Bentwood Inn
Teton Village Rd. (P.O. Box 561), Jackson, WY 83001. ☎ 307/739-1411. www.bentwood inn.com. 5 units. $195–$295 double, $245– $325 suite. Rates include full breakfast and evening cocktails. AE, DISC, MC, V. From Jackson, take Teton Village Rd. 4 miles west.
This B&B is an architectural marvel. Built from 200-year-old timber cleared from Yellowstone to make room for a rest area, the inn is a 6,000-square-foot log mansion with an amazing 43 corners. The rooms, all with remote-controlled gas fireplaces, private balconies, and Jacuzzi tubs, are extensions of the innovative design, with touches equally urban and rural, from ornate tilework to longhorn skulls above the bed.
