Ghosts Among Us - James Van Praagh [14]
When most of us think about ghosts, we tend to clump them into the same category with werewolves, vampires, and zombies. Ghosts are not ghouls who roam graveyards at midnight looking to scare people out of their wits. This perception couldn’t be farther from the truth. Granted, ghosts want to communicate with us, but mostly they want to help us, not scare us. That being said, earthbound ghosts can scare us. Since they have not yet entered the light, they are caught between the earth’s dimension and the spiritual realm. Earthbound ghosts are usually fearful, angry, or lonely, and they communicate with these kinds of emotions.
Before we go on, let me explain exactly what a ghost is. According to the Donning International Encyclopedic Psychic Dictionary, the definition of a ghost is
an energy field that makes its presence known periodically in the same area, giving the awareness of a living person; brings a drop in temperature with its presence; perceived clairaudient or audiently by its activities and movements; perceived clairvoyantly as a fluffy, transparent human-like mass, moving very slowly…
Although this description is somewhat dramatic, it is not far from the truth. Here is my definition of a ghost.
Ghosts are forms of energy, just as humans are forms of energy. They appear quite like their physical bodies. When I see ghosts, I rarely see fragments of a person, like a head or an arm, floating around in space. I see neither a mass of swirling, white clouds nor a white sheet with two holes cut out where eyes would supposedly be. I always see full human forms, complete with hair, facial features, and clothing. Most of the time, ghosts appear youthful, healthy, and in the prime of life.
However, in some instances, ghosts can appear exactly the way they were at the time of death. When ghosts materialize in this condition, death may have been sudden and unexpected, and they may not be aware that they have passed from the physical world.
Temperatures do change when ghosts are around. Mostly the air feels colder. Usually, I feel a cool breeze across the back of my neck. Ghosts definitely are perceived clairvoyantly and clairaudiently, but I have yet to hear a ghost shriek, Boo!
In addition, the physical laws of the universe do not limit ghosts. Therefore, time and gravity do not affect them. Without the dense energy of physical bodies to encapsulate them, ghost bodies vibrate at a rate we cannot measure.
Ghosts can travel from one place to another instantaneously because they live in an atmosphere solely created by their own thoughts and attitudes. So, whatever they imagine, that is where they are. It could be a palace, a dungeon, a field of flowers, or a void. It could be your house, my house, another planet, the subway, or the apartment they once lived in.
Also, ghosts are extremely sensitive, so they can pick up on your thoughts and feelings with crystal-clear clarity, as if they had some kind of special radar. Just thinking of a loved one who has passed over can attract that ghost to you.
A FATHER FINDS HIS WAY BACK HOME
I often do readings in demonstrations among hundreds and sometimes thousands of people. It gives me the opportunity to work with many different people all in one place, and the communication is often wonderful and inspiring. When a demonstration begins, ghosts line up behind me and around their loved ones in the audience, trying their best to get a message through to a husband, wife, relative, or friend. Often, in their communication, ghosts describe what it’s like to die. They want to make sure people understand that death is a very natural process and not the end. Sometimes it takes a person a while to even realize that he or she is dead and is in ghostly form.
Several years back I was in Kansas doing one of my demonstrations.
