Ghosts Among Us - James Van Praagh [83]

we hear and see on TV or the Internet instills fear in us. It is imperative that we have a strong sense of self and that we think about our choices before making them.

It is important to remember that earthbound ghosts, as well as the basest of humans, live off of our fear energy. The more fear you manifest, the more life you give them.

People ask me if I believe in demons, the devil, and so on. I say, not necessarily. However, I do believe the mind can create anything it wants. I have noticed that after I cleanse a house of negative energy the occupants will often remark, “I feel great,” or, “I feel as though I have my power back.” And they do.

THE POWER OF LOVE

The energy of love is the most powerful, natural force in the Universe. Love binds everything together and permeates everything in the Universe. It is difficult to define love because it envelops so much of life itself. Love heals, enlightens, and builds. It is the one element that I can say transcends death. Many times I am asked by people, “Do spirits know I am thinking of them?” The answer is always, “Yes!” More importantly, spirits feel the love that we have for them. It is this force of love that binds souls together through lifetimes. The reason I do my work is to demonstrate that love never dies.

When communicating with ghosts or clearing haunted places, focus on love. It can immediately change a wayward spirit or stagnant energy. Its vibration quickens everything and brings it to a higher level of consciousness. It is interesting that whenever I bring through a loving message from a ghost, because of the limitations of the physical world, I can only bring through a tenth of what the total feeling is.

Love is difficult for many people to recognize and accept. It seems like a stranger to them. Could that difficulty stem from their upbringing? Yes, possibly, but many other factors could be involved as well.

When I work with clients who have no sense of loving themselves, I do a couple of exercises that seem to give them a completely new understanding of themselves and a new sense of who they are. I start by asking them to tell me one thing they love to do. Let’s say my client is a woman who loves to buy herself a new dress now and then. I ask her to visualize going out and buying a dress, trying it on, and looking in the mirror. I ask her, “How does the dress make you feel?” Once she connects with that feeling, I have her analyze it, make it real, and even give the feeling a name. Then I ask her to make a list of personal attributes that give her that same feeling and urge her to look at that list every day and add to it. Within a week’s time of looking each day at the attributes that give her this wonderful feeling, she will have achieved a new self-awareness.

Another very successful exercise I have used with clients is to have them write on a piece of paper, “I love you [insert their own name],” and tape it to the bathroom mirror. They must repeat this statement out loud three times in the morning and three times in the evening. There is a unique healing effect that takes place when we focus love on ourselves. This exercise also gives those who try it a keen sense of self-esteem and self-appreciation.

When we love unconditionally, we use energy in its highest possible form. When we love without rules and restrictions and accept someone or something the way it is, love is able to grow and evolve.

I often think about the world’s religions and ethnicities. It seems to me that God, or the Universe, has wondrously created each of us as a facet of a diamond: each facet is different, and together the facets form a diamond that is brilliant and beautiful. It is the uniqueness that makes the diamond beautiful. Every belief system is beautiful in its knowledge. No one is better than anyone else. This is merely the illusion of the physical world. Only when we can celebrate our diversity and love one another unconditionally will there be true peace on this planet. Because we have not learned love yet, we still kill our own species. This puts Planet Earth
