Newton Hotel Hong Kong ( Map; 2807 2333; www.newtonhk.com; 218 Electric Rd; r $1400-2400, ste $3500; MTR Fortress Hill (exit A); ) A great little hotel – it’s just a shame it’s in less-than-sexy North Point. Fortress Hill MTR station is just opposite. Causeway Bay is a pleasant walk away through Victoria Park. Some rooms have broadband.
Walden Hotel ( Map; 8200 3308; www.walden-hotel.com; 353 Hennessy Rd; r $960-1890; MTR Causeway Bay, exit C; ) You may not like the corporate feel or the dim bathrooms, but you’ll admit the rates and location are very competitive. Inquire about deals and long-stay packages.

Royal Pacific Hotel & Towers ( Map; 2736 1188; www.royalpacific.com.hk; China Hong Kong City, 33 Canton Rd; r $1700-3500, ste from $4800; MTR Tsim Sha Tsui, exit E; ) An easy stroll to Kowloon Park and the China and Macau ferry terminal. Reception is on the 3rd floor; service can be both slow and harried at times.
Newton Hotel Kowloon ( Map; 2787 2338; www.newtonkln.com; 66 Boundary St, Mong Kok; r $1200; MTR Prince Edward, exit A; ) It’s in a noisy neighbourhood close to Prince Edward MTR and the Mong Kok market, clothes stalls and noodle shops. Reasonable value but no surprises.

Located 10 minutes from Soho, Sohotel reminds one of a love hotel, with its red and black reflective surfaces and heavy drapes. The rooms are clean and new, but the smallest ones are claustrophobic and the suites won’t let you do cartwheels either. Rates include internet access and breakfast.

It has great views of Victoria Harbour and there are wireless, cooking and laundry facilities, plus a TV and recreation room and secure lockers. The only problem is that it’s so far away from everything; call ahead to make sure there’s a bed
