Ian's Ultimate Gamble - Brenda Jackson [60]

By Root 425 0
And it was evident that he was deeply in love with his wife. But nothing was more touching than the moment the prince presented his princess with that case of diamonds. She quickly became the envy of every woman in the room. Except one....

Brooke smiled, glancing at the tall, dashing, handsome man at her side. Of course, when Ian’s family had seen them together they had begun asking questions. Ian and Brooke hadn't stated the response they had agreed to give earlier. Instead they truthfully and most happily said. "Yes. we're back together and we are planning a June wedding here at the Rolling Cascade."

No one seemed more thrilled with the news than Ian's mom. She had taken Brooke into her arms in a huge hug and whispered into her ear, "I knew he would eventually come to his senses. Welcome to the family, dear."

And speaking of family...

Brooke finally got to meet Uncle Corey's triplets and found that Clint and Cole were two extremely handsome men; typical Westmoreland males. And with her awe-inspiring beauty, Casey Westmoreland was grabbing a lot of male attention.

Brooke also got to meet all the Westmoreland wives. The Claiborne sisters, Jessica and Savannah, married to Chase and Durango. She met Storm's wife, Jayla; and Stone's wife, Madison. Uncle Corey had gripped her in a huge bear hug before introducing her to his new wife, Abby, who was also Madison's mother. Brooke smiled. Talk about keeping things in the family.

After Delaney's party, Ian whisked Brooke off to his conservatory and there on bended knees and under the moon and the stars, he again asked her to be his wife and presented her with a huge diamond engagement ring.

Tears flowed down her face when he slipped the ring on her linger. When he stood up, she looked at him with complete love shining in her eyes. He pulled her into his arms. "I want to kiss you beneath a shooting star." he whispered before trailing kisses along her jaw and neck.

"Do you think we can handle any more passion'?" she asked, smiling.

"Oh, I think so. I think that together the two of us can handle just about anything."

And when he leaned down and kissed her, she believed him. Considering all they had been through, they could handle just about anything.

The reaction slipped out before Emma Valentine could stop it, for there stood the very man she most wanted to avoid seeing again. He didn't look any happier to see her.

"Well, come on, get on board," he said gruffly. "I won't bite." One eyebrow rose. "Though I might nibble a little," he added, mostly to amuse himself.

But she wasn't paying any attention to what he was saying. She was staring at him, taking in the royal blue uniform he was wearing, with gold braid and glistening badges decorating the sleeves, epaulettes and an upright collar. Ribbons and medals covered the breast of the short, fitted jacket. A gold-encrusted saber hung at his side. And suddenly it was clear to her who this man really was.

She gulped wordlessly. Reaching out, he took her elbow and pulled her aboard. The doors slid closed. And finally she found her tongue.

"You...you're the prince."

He nodded, barely glancing at her. "Yes. Of course." She raised a hand and covered her mouth for a moment. "I should have known."

"Of course you should have. I don't know why you didn't." He punched the ground-floor button to get the elevator moving again, then turned to look down at her. "A relatively bright five-year-old child would have tumbled to the truth right away."

Her shock faded as her indignation at his tone asserted itself. He might be the prince, but he was still just as annoying as he had been earlier that day.

"A relatively bright five-year-old child without a bump on the head from a badly thrown water polo ball, maybe," she said defensively. She wasn't feeling woozy any longer and she wasn't about to let him bully
