Into the Fire - Leslie Kelly [78]
"Gee, I guess I forgot my panties altogether this time," she said, her voice sultry and provocative.
"This works. This definitely works," Nate said when he was finally capable of speech again, not to mention breathing.
She started to jump, and he had to grab the metal bar for support. Kicking off his shoes, he climbed onto the edge of the trampoline. Then he glanced at the door that led into the house, the one through which Lacey had probably entered.
"I remembered to lock it," she said with a wicked smile. Grabbing him by the tie, she pulled him onto the bouncy surface.
"You know, I think I'm going to remember this party better than the one at your mother's house." The engagement party her mother and stepfather had thrown for them in Indiana had been pleasant, particularly with Lacey confident her mother would be okay. A few months in counseling had definitely helped that marriage, though they still had a long way to go.
She chuckled. "Me, too. Now, aren't you going to get awfully hot and sweaty jumping up here with that suit on?"
The jacket came off first, followed by the tie and the dress shirt. He stopped before reaching for his pants, noticing the way Lacey stood, one hand behind her back.
"Are you hiding something?"
"I have a little present for you," she murmured.
His heart rate kicked up as he recognized the wicked, anticipatory expression on her face.
"I was going to wait and give it to you tomorrow night in Mexico . Somehow, though, I thought we might have fun with it here tonight. Close your eyes."
He did, immediately. The trampoline shifted as she stepped closer, then Nate felt the brush of something soft and wispy against his chest. He laughed, knowing what it was.
"Think you can handle it?" she said with a saucy grin as he opened his eyes. "I've been waiting for this for months. You're sure you know what you were talking about in that article?"
He reached for the long, red feather. "Just you wait, Lacey Clark. I'm gonna make you scream."
Thankfully, J.T.'s gym was soundproof. Because Nate definitely kept his word.
