When we entered “Mondale Social Security” into Google, not only was the first hit an article entitled “Mondale Condemns Social Security,” but the second hit was an August 28, 2002, Washington Post article called “Gingrich Accusations Come Under Scrutiny.” The third was a piece about Gingrich’s lie entitled “Why Don’t These People Use Google?”
An October 31, 2002, article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune quotes Daniel Williams, research manager for KSTP-TV, as estimating that “more than 630,000 people tuned in for at least part of the event.”
During the campaign, Norm Coleman liked to boast that he had “created” 18,000 jobs as mayor of St. Paul. The Wellstone campaign thought it was only fair to point out that, during Paul’s tenure in the Senate, Minnesota had gained 428,400 new jobs. During his twelve years as a senator, Paul helped pass an economic stimulus law providing tax incentives for small businesses to expand and create jobs, worked to cut red tape for Minnesota’s medical technology industry, pushed for broadband Internet access throughout rural Minnesota in order to attract business, introduced a bill to provide $2 billion in job training services, championed micro-loan programs that provide capital to start-up businesses, and supported renewable bio-fuels that produced new work opportunities.
