Men Who Killed Qantas - Matthew Benns [115]

By Root 347 0
quote from his excellent book, Air Crash. Research for stories that I have written on Qantas for the Sun-Herald has always been greatly assisted by the diligent, thorough and professional library staff at Fairfax. Helen Bayliss has been particularly supportive of my more outlandish requests. My immediate bosses at the Sun-Herald, editor Simon Dulhunty, deputy editor Liz Hannan and chief of staff Chad Watson have also been incredibly supportive. Lawyer Richard Coleman gave up his own time to read the manuscript and offer advice and Richard Potter also brought his extensive legal knowledge to bear on the book.

Australia has many excellent journalists in all mediums, whose work and unsparing scrutiny of Qantas over the years, and particularly recently, has greatly helped in assembling the relevant facts for this book. They have my continued admiration. Of course, my personal thanks also need to go to my colleagues, family and friends, who tolerated without complaint the long absences and tired surliness that goes with a project of this kind. Most importantly, though, my thanks and respect go to the many people within Qantas who spoke to me about the concerns they have for the airline they all care so deeply about. For obvious reasons, they cannot be named here. I hope this book does justice to the faith they placed in me.
