Mugglenet.com's Harry Potter Should Have Died - Emerson Spartz [20]
It’s too bad that the centaurs don’t finish off Umbridge when they carry her away at the end of OotP. And it’s too bad it isn’t the end for her when Peeves the Poltergeist chases her out the door of the school while hitting her with a bag of chalk. Unfortunately, she turns up again at the Ministry in DH, torturing Muggle-borns and throwing them in prison. She even uses the late Mad-Eye Moody’s magical eyeball as a security system on her office door—how sick is that? Is it any surprise that she enjoys wearing Salazar Slytherin’s locket, which was one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes? It probably feels completely normal to her, since her mind is already twisted. Harry should have kept her around as a natural Patronus Charm—Dementors wouldn’t touch (or kiss) that soulless creature with a thirty-nine-and-a-half-foot pole. You want to murder her, but that’s not enough—you want to clone her and kill all her clones.
Verdict
As a leader, Cornelius Fudge could have helped Harry by hunting down the Dark Lord when he was still a pre-cauldron speck of a soul, but he let tunnel vision and lack of action nearly destroy the wizarding world. Vernon Dursley could have been a real dad to Harry, but he withheld fatherly love and affection. Verdict: When it all comes down, Dolores Umbridge is the character whose head you most want to hold underwater.
Who is the better supporting character: Luna Lovegood or Neville Longbottom?
Luna Lovegood
What makes Luna Lovegood the best supporting character by far is that although she seems lost in a whimsical world of her own, she manages to have a special friendship with Harry that goes beyond houses, gender, or popularity. She is an outcast when we first see her sitting alone on the train in OotP, but soon everyone comes to appreciate her piercing insights and total honesty. She is sweet and funny, making Harry laugh with her more bizarre tales of the Rotfang Conspiracy and the Crumple-Horned Snorkack. In some ways, she’s the best role model for girls in the books because she always does her own thing without caring what anyone thinks.
She helps Harry learn to have faith in the unseen parts of the universe. No one else can explain the veil in the Death Room or the haunting Thestrals. Luna doesn’t try to explain everything logically, as Hermione does, and she also doesn’t fall apart and cry when she is sad, like Cho Chang. She is also Ginny Weasley’s friend, as she mentions in HBP when commentating hilariously for the Quidditch match, but she doesn’t have the same flaring temper even when the bullies are bothering her. In some ways, Luna is a combination of all the houses, except Slytherin. Although she definitely supports her own Ravenclaw house at Quidditch, even letting their mascot—a large eagle—perch on her head in OotP, she also wears a roaring lion hat and likes to sit with the courageous Gryffindors. She is loyal and true like a Hufflepuff, but doesn’t seem to have a Slytherin bone in her body.
Luna isn’t afraid of the unknown, while nervous Neville often worries about everything. Luna’s like a mystical princess who is always calm and cool, even in DH when she’s been kidnapped and tortured at Malfoy Manor, or when she is standing by Dobby’s grave giving his eulogy. Luna is a calm spirit, a breath of fresh air, and a comfort to everyone. Plus, she’s hilarious. How empty the books would be without her!
Neville Longbottom
Luna is a great girl, but did she ever destroy a Horcrux? No. Did she ever talk back to Voldemort or lead Dumbledore’s Army? No. And that’s why the best supporting character has to be Neville Longbottom. He was nearly the “Chosen One” himself, born just one day before Harry on June 30, according to J.K.R.’s official site. Throughout the story he is just one step behind. He has so much in common with Harry that they are almost like brothers.
While Luna still has her father, Neville and Harry are both orphans raised by other relatives. Neville’s grandmother
