Mugglenet.com's Harry Potter Should Have Died - Emerson Spartz [55]
Here’s the thing: Lily has to be in Snape’s memory because she is the most important person in his whole life, and Snape’s motivation for everything, so what could possibly lead to the decision to leave her scenes on the cutting room floor? That scene is the heart of whole book, and the biggest thing Harry ever learns about his parents [OotP, p. 647]. And not only were the Snape fans upset about it, but the Marauders fans, too. They never got to see James being flirty with his future wife, or see Sirius telling Prongs that Lily thought he was too arrogant. They never saw Lupin afraid to stand up to his only friends, or Peter snickering while watching Snape being tormented. For years, on every discussion forum, fans have debated that scene. It is direct foreshadowing for HBP and DH and it was highly anticipated. Maybe they will cobble it back together somehow for the “Prince’s Tale” in the Deathly Hallows movies. Good luck with that, WB. Please put Lily back into Snape’s memory where she belongs.
Verdict
Rupert Grint’s character has been relegated to a significantly reduced role because of movie edits, and that makes many fans unhappy. Peeves the Poltergeist is also disappointingly missing from the movies. Lily Evans Potter is Harry’s mother, but the filmmakers obliviated her from Snape’s childhood memory. Which is the worst omission? Verdict: If they meant to concentrate on Harry’s own story, then leaving Lily Potter out of OotP is the biggest screwup of the movies.
Who would you like to get to know better: Andromeda Tonks or Blaise Zabini?
Andromeda Black Tonks
It’s a shame we only catch a glimpse of Andromeda Tonks in Deathly Hallows . Sirius Black calls her his favorite cousin in OotP, but we never hear any stories about their friendship. Being the older sister of Narcissa Malfoy and Bellatrix Lestrange, whom she closely resembles, she is fascinating. We know she was in Slytherin house because Professor Slughorn said in HBP that he knew the whole Black family when he was head of house. So that makes Andromeda a special character: a Slytherin pureblood who marries a Muggle-born. So how did Andromeda escape her pureblood family to run away with Ted Tonks? Were her own parents just like her aunt, crazy Mrs. Black at Grimmauld Place, who burned her name off the family tapestry? It would be interesting to know whether she had any contact with Narcissa after the birth of their children. It’s a similar story to that of Lily and Petunia, sisters who live in very different worlds. Andromeda’s daughter, Nymphadora, is a Metamorphmagus, or shape-shifter, and she tells Harry in OotP that the trait is genetic. So did she inherit it from Andromeda? Did Sirius like her so much because she could transfigure so easily?
It’s interesting that Harry raises his voice at Andromeda in DH, and based on her appearance alone judges her to be arrogant just like Bellatrix or Narcissa. When will Harry learn not to judge a book by its cover, or a Slytherin by a proud demeanor? Andromeda is distressed at that moment because she thinks her only daughter might be dead, which sadly comes true by the end of the book. After the fall of Voldemort, and after the death of Ted Tonks, Andromeda alone raises Harry’s godson, Teddy Lupin. That’s really sad, but also raises more questions. She and Harry must have gotten to know each other quite well over the years, and their conversations must have been rather amazing as they reminisced about the Blacks and Malfoys. Through her memories, he would have learned so much more about Sirius when he was young, a great treat for Harry. It’s too bad we didn’t see any of this in the books.
Blaise Zabini
What an interesting character Blaise Zabini is, yet we hardly see him in the books. His name is called out last in the alphabetical order system for the Sorting Hat in SS, but there is nothing about him until HBP, when he shows up sitting with the other Slytherins on the train to Hogwarts. It was a surprise to some fans that he was a young man, since his gender
