Dolce & Gabbana.

It’s easy to feel like an Italian movie star amid these exuberant (in every sense) clothes. Pinstripes are a favorite; for women, they could be paired with something sheer, furred, or leopard-print, and for men they elongate the sharp suits. | 825 Madison Ave., between E. 68th and E. 69th Sts., Upper East Side | 10028 | 212/249–4100 | Subway: 6 to 68th St./Hunter College.

Etro.

Trademark paisleys and bold patterns sprawl over richly covered suits, dresses, and lustrous pillows at this Italian designer’s boutique, while juicy colors and rich detailing and embroidery keep things modern. | 720 Madison Ave., between E. 63rd and E. 64th Sts., Upper East Side | 10021 | 212/317–9096 | Subway: 6 to 68th St./Hunter College.

J. Crew.

The preppy-chic brand that is a staple in so many people’s closets continues to push the envelope. Yes, you can still get cardigans, cords, and tees in every pastel color of the rainbow, but some of the separates are downright sexy. The leather jackets and sequined skirts are also perfect for that casual, thrown-together look. | 1035 Madison Ave., at 79th St., Upper East Side | 10075 | 212/249–3869 | Subway: 6 to 77th St./Lexington Ave.

J. Crew Bridal Boutique.

Brides on a budget—and those seeking a simple frock—sighed with relief when preppy favorite J.Crew started selling bridal gowns. And now, the line is featured in an elegant town house, the first boutique the company opened. One floor is filled with cocktail and occasion dresses, and bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses are on the ground level. For one-stop shopping, jewelry and undergarments are also sold here. Appointments are required to view the bridal and party collections. | 769 Madison Ave., at 66th St., Upper East Side | 10021 | 212/824–2500 | Subway: 6 to 68th St./Hunter College.

Lanvin.

This French label has been around since 1889, and is the oldest French fashion house still in existence. After a period of hibernation, Lanvin reemerged on the fashion radar in 2001, when designer Alber Elbaz took over the reins. The signature look is fluid and sexy; think one-shouldered cocktail dresses, cigarette pants, and ruffled blouses. This elegant town house is the first U.S. outpost. The interior design itself is a showstopper; the three-story space oozes old money and glamour with its Art Deco chandeliers and soothing gray walls. And the clothes? Just as slinky. | 815 Madison Ave., between E. 68th and E. 69th Sts., Upper East Side | 10065 | 646/439–0381 | Subway: 6 to 68th St./Hunter College.

Lisa Perry.

Perry takes an artist’s approach to her designs in this white loftlike space. She has created dresses printed with famous Andy Warhol photographs, such as the image of him drowning in a Campbell’s Soup can. Pop art aside, her store is filled with a mix of ’60s and ’70s vintage clothes as well as her own designs. Accessories like vintage cocktail glasses and evening bags are also available. | 976 Madison Ave., between E. 76th and E. 77th Sts., Upper East Side | 10075 | 212/334–1956 | Subway: 4, 6 to 77th St./Lexington.
