7E ARRONDISSEMENT (TOUR EIFFEL/INVALIDES)
Hôtel Duc de Saint-Simon.
$$$$ | If it’s good enough for the notoriously choosy Lauren Bacall, you’ll probably fall for the Duc’s charms, too. Its hidden location between Boulevard St-Germain and Rue du Bac is one plus; another is the shady courtyard entry. Rooms in pastels teem with antiques and countrified floral and striped fabrics. Four rooms have spacious terraces overlooking the courtyard. The 16th-century basement lounge is a warren of stone alcoves with a zinc bar and plush seating. To keep the peace, children aren’t welcome. Pros: upscale neighborhood close to St-Germain-des-Prés; historic character. Cons: rooms in the annex are smaller and have no elevator; no air-conditioning; some worn decor. | 14 rue St-Simon, St-Germain-des-Prés | 75007 | 01–44–39–20–20 | www.hotelducdesaintsimon.com | 29 rooms, 5 suites | In-room: no a/c (some), safe, Wi-Fi. In-hotel: bar, laundry service, parking (paid), no kids under 10 | AE, DC, MC, V | Station: Rue du Bac
Hôtel du Champ de Mars.
$ | This hotel just off Rue Cler has an appealing down-home feel, with a vibrant Provençal-inspired lobby and huge picture windows overlooking the street. Country-style wood furnishings and crisp fabric chair covers decorate each room. The two on the ground floor open onto a leafy private courtyard. Pros: cozy country decor; good value; walking distance to Eiffel Tower and Les Invalides. Cons: smallish rooms; no air-conditioning. | 7 rue du Champ de Mars, Invalides | 75007 | 01–45–51–52–30 | www.hotelduchampdemars.com | 25 rooms | In-room: no a/c, safe, Wi-Fi | MC, V | Station: Ecole Militaire.
Hôtel Eiffel Rive Gauche.
$$ | On a quiet street near the Tour Eiffel, this bright and welcoming hotel is a good budget find. The rooms are small but comfortable, with modern wood furnishings and orange and gold walls. Many of them open directly onto the Tuscan-style patio with its verdigris railings and terra-cotta tiles. Fans are available in summer. The owner, Monsieur Chicheportiche, is a multilingual encyclopedia of Paris. Pros: close to the Eiffel Tower; bright and cheery decor; fans in summer. Cons: no air-conditioning; some noise between rooms; big difference in room sizes. | 6 rue du GrosCaillou | 75007 | 01–45–51–24–56 | www.hotel-eiffel.com | 29 rooms | In-room: no a/c, safe, Wi-Fi. In-hotel: laundry service, Internet terminal | MC, V | Station: École Militaire
Hôtel Le Tourville.
$$$ | Here is a rare find: a cozy upscale hotel that doesn’t cost a fortune. Each room has crisp, milk-white damask upholstery set against pastel or ocher walls, a smattering of antique bureaus and lamps, original artwork, and fabulous old mirrors. The junior suites have hot tubs, whereas the Superior room has its own private garden terrace. The staff couldn’t be more helpful. Pros: close to the Eiffel Tower and Invalides; attentive service; soundproofed windows. Cons: no shower curtains for the bathtubs; air-conditioning only in summer. | 16 av. deTourville | 75007 | 01–47–05–62–62 | www.hoteltourville.com | 27 rooms, 3 suites | In-room: a/c, safe (some), Wi-Fi.
