Judging for a particular field requires a detailed view behind the scenes, usually available only to its practitioners. For loop quantum gravity, I can safely say that while it is certainly not perfect, on average at least it comes close to the ideal: There is a fearless tyrant, to be sure, but the rest are a bunch of anarchists.
