Arthur C. Clarke was born in 1917. He worked in London during the 30s as a civil-servant auditor before serving as a radar instructor with the RAF during WWII. After the war he studied at King’s College, graduating with a first class BSc in Physics and Mathematics. He had already started writing short stories for fanzines in the late 30s but his first novels Prelude to Space and The Sands of Mars were not published until
