Finding Balance
This chapter may have left you feeling a little overwhelmed, as it did us, too. The Maya predicted that life would become more difficult as humans lost balance with nature. In fact, that’s really what’s going on. We have lost our balance with nature and lost respect for the purpose of natural barriers and design. On the positive side, if we’ve learned anything from the Mayan calendars, we know that cycles come and go and balance is found and lost repeatedly. As our current imbalance with nature gets more extreme, it will in fact create its own turnaround point that will bring us back to balance. Like the pendulum swinging, nothing stays the same. The question is, will it happen in time to avert total destruction? Let’s keep delving into the signs of change for an answer.

Earth changes and severe weather are not the only warnings of the 2012 predictions. The prophecies warn of social problems, too. In the Mayan Chilam Balam, we’re told there will be “scarcity of resource, food shortages and many people dying.” The katun predicts a time when people lose confidence in both established religion and government.
The Bible says of the end times: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.” (Luke 21:10-11 NIV) Nostradamus predicts that the social upheaval of the times will allow the “antichrist” to come to power. Are you having fun yet?
If you start to feel overwhelmed reading this chapter, we felt overwhelmed writing it, too! Just remember, we have everything required to shift things. How we’ve done things in the past is part of the old age that is breaking down. The time leading to 2012 may well be the pressure cooker forcing us to evolve our thinking, our relationship to the planet, and our ways of living. As much as this is purification, it’s rectification as well.
