Mark (left) and Michael (right) Klebeck are natives of the Pacific Northwest. They were born (in the 1960s) and brought up in Lakewood, Washington, the last of eight children. After studying at the University of Washington, they went into the coffee business. They are the founders of the Seattle icons Bauhaus Books & Coffee, Zeitgeist Art + Coffee, and Sun Liquor. As designers and builders of numerous businesses inspired by mid-century styling, Mark and Michael are always personally involved in the build-out of their establishments, which demonstrate the art of vintage trades such as cabinet making, terrazzo floor installation, and furniture building. Mark formed and is the lead guitarist in surf music band King of Hawaii. They are both married with children and live in Seattle, Washington
Jess Thomson is a Seattle-based freelance writer and cookbook author. Her work appears in publications such as Sunset, Cooking Light, Edible Seattle, and Seattle Met magazines. She is a contributor at Leite’s Culinaria, where her work was chosen for inclusion in the 2008 and 2010 editions of Best Food Writing. She was also a finalist for a Bert Greene Award in 2009. Jess is a graduate of Middlebury College and the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts.
