Truly, Madly, Deadly_ The Unofficial True Blood Companion - Becca Wilcott [117]
@GodricofBlood: Immortality was not my choice. I too was turned and had to accept the new path I was given by my maker. My existence was not right. I did not live long enough as a human to fully understand what it meant. I should have died the day I was turned.
@LorenatheMaker: William is Mine and will always be Mine! He loves me, even if he doesn’t realize it, right now. He is enthralled by that blonde blood bag, but she will grow old and he will lose interest.
@SteveNewlinJr: Vampires have no Soul. The Soul has long since departed when the human was killed to make way for the vampiric parasite. The empty husk that remains is simply a vessel for the Hell Beasts to inhabit. We simply execute the Lord’s will and return the demons to Hell. It is neither murder nor mercy, it is pest control!
@SarahNewlin: It’s important to me to help young women grow within our church, learn who they are, and how Jesus fits into their lives. Loving and supporting Steve in his endeavors is a huge part of my purpose on this Earth as well. *thinks* But I don’t think I’d ever change hairdressers, even if Jesus asked me to.
@PamVampTB: Eric is my maker. I owe him my loyalty. I have to obey him, but I do it willingly. I would retaliate against anyone that harmed him, which includes Sookie. I am a vampire first, and survival is my ultimate motivator. Well, that, and a great pair of pumps.
@JessicaHamby: NOT bein’ a virgin was one of the only things I wanted when I was still alive. And then my new “life” starts and I find out that’s the only thing I won’t EVER lose. Hoyt doesn’t understand that pain. It ain’t just physical . . . it’s just remindin’ me over and over and over that I can never have what I want.
The sheer volume of followers the players have amassed is testament to the chord they’ve struck in fans. The accounts for Sookie Stackhouse (@SookieBonTemps), Bill Compton (@VampireBill), Eric Northman (@EricNorthman), Jason Stackhouse (@JasonBT), Jessica Hamby (@JessicaHamby), Lafayette Reynolds (@LafayetteTB), Sam Merlotte (@MerlottesBar), Pam Ravenscroft (@PamVampTB), Arlene Fowler (@ArleneFowler), Ginger (@FangtasiaGinger), Andy Bellefleur (@AndyBellefleur), and Terry Bellefleur (@TerryB_Fleur) bring in a combined 75,000 followers. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg; it doesn’t begin to do justice to all the other players who make up this dynamic community.
@MerlottesBar and @MaryannForreste are the “True Blood on Twitter” roleplaying accounts for Sam Merlotte and Maryann Forrester respectively (for the sake of the users’ privacy, they will be referred to as “Sam” and “Maryann” throughout this chapter). Sam has been involved in roleplay since high school, and has played everything from a scientist to a revolutionary to a doctor, a spy, and an assasin. He had already devoured Charlaine Harris’s books when he stumbled across the True Blood players on Twitter. “I liked the portrayals and the nascent storylines and noticed that there was no Sam, so I thought I might give it a shot.” As part of his obligations, he’s also responsible for the upkeep of Merlotte’s Bar and Grill, so included in his tweets are work schedules for other characters, serving up virtual drinks for visitors, and sounding out the all-important last call.
Maryann came to her roleplaying as a newbie, but was attracted to the character for her no-nonsense attitude. “She enjoys life and when she wants something she goes for it,” she says. “It’s an admirable trait; she’s my idol.”
Maryann spends around five hours a week roleplaying, more if other users continue to engage her in interesting ways — keep in mind, this is Maryann. You’d have to be about good times to keep her interest. Sam treats his roleplay as another job, online approximately 20 to 30 hours a week, in keeping with how much time regular patrons of Merlotte’s would expect to spend with Sam. “But I don’t mind at all,” he says. “I just like Sam . . . He reminds me a lot of the men I knew when I was growing up in the South. They were simple, good, honest,
