Truly, Madly, Deadly_ The Unofficial True Blood Companion - Becca Wilcott [93]
But it’s as Bill and Sookie make love that a new bad girl comes to town: Bill’s maker, Lorena, returns, barely recognizable from season 1. I smell a cat fight!

Highlight: Sarah [to Jason]: “Let me reward you. Let me help you find your way back to joy.”
Nightcap: Hoyt’s cell phone ring is “When the Saints Go Marching In.” Ashley Jones (Daphne Landry) shot her episodes while appearing on The Bold and the Beautiful as physician-cum-designer Bridget Forrester Marone often going with little to no sleep between shifts. She also had a no-nudity clause in her contract even though the casting call expressed a preference for it. It resulted in a hot silhouetted seduction scene, leaving something to the imagination. It was refreshing to go back into the darkness, away from the light. The Dallas hotel that Bill and Sookie check in to is the Hotel Carmilla, a reference to the 1872 vampire classic Carmilla, written by Sheridan Le Fanu, and the basis for films such as Vampyr — Der Traum (1932), Et mourir de plaisir (1960), La cripta e l’incubo (1964), Carmilla (1999), and Carmilla (2010). Le Fanu’s Carmilla pre-dates Bram Stoker’s Dracula by 25 years and is considered the original prototype for female and lesbian vampires, so it’s a fitting name for the hotel, especially as it pertains to Lorena. In season 1, we saw evidence of her as a strong, sexual woman. At the end of this episode, it’s clear she’s just as potent as ever, popping fang at the sound of Bill making love to another woman.
Relationship Crypt Falls: Bill and Sookie’s constant need to check in with each other is not only a buzz kill, it’s as if they’re practicing attachment parenting, hoping that if they connect deeply enough, especially in bed, they’ll become more attune to one another, never wanting for anything because all their needs will be provided for. Bill is looking more and more like a father figure to Sookie every day, uncomfortable given her past with Uncle Bartlett.
Paging Dr. Creepy: In the books, Godric is a teenager. It’s unclear how old he’s meant to be in the series. Regardless, the sight of his face covered in blood is something to behold. Hearkening back to the young boys in the opening credits whose mouths are smeared in strawberries, he looks vicious, large, and in charge, a boy who had a life of killing forced upon him. He’s enigmatic but still a child, his innocence taken just as Sookie’s and Jason’s was.
Location, Location, Location: The Hotel Carmilla scenes were shot in West Hollywood at the Sofitel Hotel on Beverly Boulevard, across from the Beverly Center Mall, northeast of Rodeo Drive (in Beverly Hills). Gunther Zweimuller, GM of Sofitel L.A., had this to say: “Shooting took two separate days, 18 hours one day and 24 hours the following week. It was a huge hit with guests of the hotel. They got to see Anna Paquin up close, some even brushing shoulders with her while passing to enjoy dinner in the Simon L.A. restaurant (which remained open during filming as did the rest of the hotel). True Blood was a wonderful match for us. Filming went smoothly and our employees and guests had a great time with the cast and crew.” Visit Sofitel L.A. online at www.sofitel.com.
