ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

So many people to thank, so little time. With my radio show and all the other important things I’m doing, I really can’t spend a lot of time or effort acknowledging the colleagues, friends, and experts who helped make this book happen. So I know they’ll understand why these acknowledgments are so perfunctory and slapdash.

First, my editor, Mitch Hoffman, and his assistant editor, Erika Kahn. Thanks. Thanks. My agent, Jonathon Lazear, his assistant, Christi Cardenas, and my lawyer, Gunnar Erickson. Thank you all. Brian Tart, my publisher. Thanks. My wife, Franni. Also, thanks.

Richard Hasselberger did the cover design. Good job. Thanks. Dutton publicists Lisa Johnson and Jean Anne Rose, thanks for the great job on Lies. Let’s not rest on our laurels, okay?

Thanks also to the phenomenal staff of The Al Franken Show. Much of the research for the book was accumulated during the year and a half we’ve been on the air. Tim Bradley, Mark Lotto, Eric Hananoki, Ayo Griffin, Rob Mackey—thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks, and thanks. And to Jim Norton, who came up with two of the lies about Sean Hannity—thanks.

Also, to the research interns—Josh Blank, Merle Eisenberg, and Joe Franken—thanks.

The rest of the staff deserves thanks, too. That would be executive producer Gaby Zuckerman, engineer Chris Rosen, associate producer Kate Sullivan, and administrative assistant Molly Patterson. You’re the best. Thanks, thanks, etc., etc.

And the Sundance people, too. Thank you, guys.

To all our guests on The Al Franken Show. Thank you. Especially, David Sirota, Christy Harvey, and Judd Legum from the Center for American Progress. Thanks times three, one for each of you. To our other regular and semiregular guests—Jonathan Alter, David Brock, John Dickerson, Howard Fineman, Paul Glastris, Hendrik Hertzberg, Paul Krugman, Mark Luther, John Markus, Joshua Micah Marshall, Lawrence O’Donnell, Tom Oliphant, Melanie Sloan, and, of course, Joe Conason—I have one word for you all. Thanks.

A special thank-you to my terrific cohost, Katherine Lanpher. You deserve a better acknowledgment. Next book, okay?

Everybody at Air America deserves individual thanks. They won’t get them.
