When Ghosts Speak - Mary Ann Winkowski [27]
The ghost stared at me. It was clear by his expression that he knew he’d been busted. “That’s right,” I said. “I’m talking to you, and it’s just not funny anymore.”
It was obvious to me that the ghost’s prank created enough stress in the audience to give him a large dose of energy. I didn’t see if he stayed to watch the movie or not; most likely he just moved on, returning to wherever he spent most of his time, energized by his evening out at the movies.
Never Say Never
Perhaps the most important thing my experiences with earthbound spirits have taught me is that ghosts aren’t really all that different from the living. With more than fifty years of communicating with earthbound spirits as reference, I have become pretty good a predicting certain behaviors from certain types of ghosts. But I know it would be a mistake to become complacent. While I can go for years without encountering a particular type of earthbound spirit—one who is truly dark or malevolent, for instance (more on them in chapter 9), or an incubus or succubus who can sexually interact with the living—I do know that they’re out there.
Through the course of my work, I have gone all over the world and met all kinds of people—and I still haven’t lost my ability to be amazed by personalities. So I’m not really surprised when I encounter earthbound spirits who behave unexpectedly. In fact, I’m usually grateful for the fresh insight into some aspect of an earthbound spirit’s existence. And while all my years of experience have led me to believe that certain things about earthbound spirits are largely true while others are largely the product of misinformation or media portrayals, I’m also careful to recognize that each new meeting with a spirit brings the potential for me to gain fresh insight and information. I think this is why, after so many years, I still enjoy my work. And even though on a daily basis the information I learn and the ghosts I communicate with can be quite ordinary, I am confident that there are still surprises out there awaiting me.

THE WHITE LIGHT
An Opportunity to Cross Over
I USE THE white Light for a very specific purpose in my work as a paranormal investigator. And although I discovered how I could use the Light decades ago, other people were doing so for many years before me. During the seventeenth century, Sir Isaac Newton proved that white light is the effect of combining, in equal proportions, all the visible colors of light. The result is a pure color that is rich in symbolism. In many cultures, the color white is associated with purity, clarity, and good. People who work in the metaphysical or spiritual arts often describe or use white light in the context of their healing work. White light may be used in yoga or meditation practices. Other people talk about its protective powers.
When I was a young girl, the nuns at my Catholic school would tell Bible stories that often featured blinding bursts of light: angels arriving in dramatic flashes; Moses encountering a bush that was consumed by pure flame but not burned. Today I think of white Light as a manifestation of positive energy, and later in this book I will tell you how you can begin to access
