When Pigs Fly_ Training Success With Impossible Dogs - Jane Killion [90]
Author Biography
Jane Killion got started in dog training when her former husband signed up for an obedience class with their new Bull Terrier puppy, Nicky, and then got bored with it after two sessions. Jane took over Nicky’s training and was faced with a seemingly insurmountable challenge—he was so wild that he would literally collapse from excitement when taken out in public. Jane was determined that he should be able to go out and enjoy life like a “normal” dog, so she spent the next several years learning everything she could about dogs, dog behavior, and learning theory. In the process, Jane became a die-hard dog training junkie. Her efforts paid off and she took Nicky on to earn several agility and obedience titles.
Her passion is helping people who have been told that their dog “just has an attitude” or is incapable of learning. She has had great success showing people how to find a new connection with their canine companions by shaping new behavior. Most of all, she never trains for mere compliance—she teaches her students how to shape a dog who vibrates with happiness when training.
Jane lives in New Jersey with a houseful of Bull Terriers and a very wise cat. She breeds and shows Bull Terriers and has successfully competed with five different Bull Terriers and a Cattle Dog in agility and obedience. She has contributed several dog training articles to various publications and magazines. Her house is the frequent site of “Bullypalooza” days, which involve lots of people getting together with their dogs to train all day and then staying into the evening for dinner and lively discussions about dogs and dog training. Her website is www.madcapbullterriers.com
