Located at the end of Sol Duc Road, the Sol Duc Hot Springs have been a popular family vacation spot for years. Campers, day-trippers, and resort guests all spend the day soaking and playing in the hot spring–fed sitting pools. The grounds of the resort are grassy and open, but the forest is within arm's reach. The cabins, done in modern motel style, are comfortable if not spacious. Cabins have two queen or double beds, tub/shower combos, and porches. Six cabins also have fully equipped kitchens. The excellent restaurant serves breakfast and dinner, and the poolside deli serves lunch. The resort also has a gift shop and a convenience store. The focal point is the three sitting pools, which are open to the public ($10.75 adults, $8 children 4 to 12, $3 infants 1 to 3; room rates include pool access for guests). Massages are available.

Looking for a romantic getaway? You won't find a better spot than Domaine Madeleine. Set on beautifully landscaped grounds overlooking the water, this B&B has a secluded and relaxing atmosphere. The guest rooms are in several different buildings surrounded by colorful gardens. All have views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the mountains beyond, fireplaces, VCRs, and hair dryers, plus romantic touches such as French perfumes and his-and-hers designer robes. Four units have whirlpool tubs for two, and three have kitchenettes. The breakfasts, offering items such as Dungeness crab omelettes and apple crepes, are superb. All rooms are nonsmoking.

If you're on your way to or from Victoria, there's no more convenient hotel than the Red Lion. Located on the waterfront, it's steps from the ferry terminal. Most rooms have balconies and large bathrooms, and the more expensive rooms overlook the Strait of Juan de Fuca. A seafood restaurant is adjacent to the hotel. Laundry and valet service is available, and there's a heated outdoor pool and hot tub.

Located in a quiet residential neighborhood, this 1910 Tudor home is surrounded by a large yard and pretty gardens. Upstairs are nicely restored guest rooms furnished with European antiques. Several rooms have good views of the Olympic Mountains; one unit has a balcony, fireplace, and claw-foot tub. On the ground floor are a lounge and library, both with fireplaces that get a lot of use. The delicious breakfast of fresh-baked pastries, egg dishes, and specialty items is served by candlelight in the formal dining room. The inn is nonsmoking.
