In a beautiful parklike setting on the bank of the Sol Duc River, this log B&B is 10 miles north of Forks, a short drive from milepost 202 on U.S. 101. The accommodations are everything the rooms in a log house should be—rustic, romantic, rugged—yet with stained glass, antiques, down comforters, and private bathrooms. Out in the yard you'll find a hot tub and a covered barbecue area. The substantial breakfasts will keep you going all day. Smoking is permitted outdoors only.

Manitou Lodge Bed & Breakfast

This secluded B&B on 10 forested acres is only minutes from some of the most beautiful and remote beaches in the Northwest. The rooms are decorated in an eclectic style that combines handmade furniture, quilts, and other crafts with antiques. All units have microwaves and Wi-Fi. The largest guest room, "Sacagawea," has a wood-burning fireplace, king bed, handmade tables, and an old oak freezer chest as a dresser. There are five rooms in the main lodge, two more in a separate cabin, and a small, summer-only cabin that has a portable toilet outdoors but no shower. Guests tend to gravitate to the comfortable living room, where a huge stone fireplace is the center of attention.

This charming and comfortable old farmhouse, just a few blocks east of downtown Forks, is surrounded by large old trees and pastures. There's nothing fussy or pretentious—it's just a friendly inn that caters primarily to outdoors enthusiasts and, during the winter months, anglers. Two rooms have two-person whirlpool tubs, one has a one-person whirlpool tub, and two rooms have gas fireplaces. A large hot tub is on the back deck. The breakfasts are definitely worth getting up for—specialties include gingerbread pancakes with lemon sauce, and blueberry French toast. All rooms are nonsmoking.

Lake Quinault Lodge

On the shore of Lake Quinault at the southwest corner of the park, this imposing grande dame of the Olympic Peninsula exudes ageless tranquillity. Huge old firs and cedars shade the rustic lodge, and Adirondack chairs on the deck command a view of the lawn. In the main lodge are small rooms; modern rooms with wicker furniture and little balconies; and our favorites—rooms with gas fireplaces, queen-size beds, sleeper sofas, and private patios or balconies.
