Frommer's National Parks of the American West - Don Laine [318]
Where to Dine
INSIDE THE PARK
Restaurant choices inside the park are slim. On the north side, on the shore of Lake Crescent, the dining room at Lake Crescent Lodge (open early May to mid-October) serves Continental and Northwestern cuisine with an emphasis on local seafood. Also along the lakeshore, the Log Cabin Resort (open Valentine's Day to Christmas), offers a Northwestern menu, specializing in local seafood. On Lake Quinault, try the dining rooms at the Calash Lodge and the Lake Quinault Lodge (see "Where to Stay," above). The restaurant at Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort is open from early May through
mid-October. It offers traditional American breakfasts and Northwest cuisine at dinner. On the premises is a deli that serves lunch.
To pick up packaged sandwiches, beverages, and snacks at Lake Crescent, stop at the Fairholme Store & Marina, 221121 U.S. 101 (☎ 360/928-3020), at the west end of the lake. It's open from May through September.
IN PORT ANGELES
Bella Italia
118 E. 1st St. ☎ 360/457-5442. www.bella italia.com. Main courses $7–$25. AE, DC, DISC, MC, V. Daily 4–9pm. Closed Thanksgiving, Dec 25. ITALIAN.
This lively, colorfully decorated restaurant in downtown Port Angeles offers a fun atmosphere as well as people-watching out the large storefront windows. Meals begin with a basket of delicious fresh-baked bread accompanied by a dipping sauce of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic, and herbs. The menu includes all the favorite Italian dishes. Daily specials include fresh local seafood. Also on the menu are local mussels, steamed clams, and smoked salmon fettuccine. If you've had your fill of seafood, try vegetarian lasagna, manicotti, one of the specialty pizzas, or Tuscan steak—sliced marinated flank steak grilled with roasted red potatoes. The Italian desserts are excellent. This is a good choice for families as well as those who want a fine-dining experience at a reasonable price.
C'est Si Bon
23 Cedar Park Rd. (north side of U.S. 101, just off Buchanan Rd.). ☎ 360/452-8888. www. cestsibon-frenchcuisine.com. Reservations recommended. Main courses $21–$33. AE, DISC, MC, V. Tues–Sun 5–11pm. Closed Jan 1. FRENCH.
Located 3 miles east of town just off U.S. 101, C'est Si Bon is an attractive restaurant with reproductions of European works of art, crystal chandeliers, and old musical instruments used as wall decorations. Most tables have a view of the restaurant's pretty garden, and there is a large sunroom on the garden side. The menu is primarily French with some Northwestern influences; sauces are mostly lighter than those at many other French restaurants. Selections include Cornish game hen with mushroom stuffing, scampi in whiskey sauce, beef tenderloin in red currant sauce, roast duck, and rack of lamb. Desserts are limited, but rich and creamy, and the wine selection is very good. When you call for reservations, ask for directions from where you are.
Downriggers
At the Landing Mall, 115 E. Railroad Ave., 2nd level. ☎ 360/452-2700. Reservations recommended for dinner. Main courses $5.95–$11 lunch; $10–$26 dinner. AE, DISC, MC, V. Sun–Thurs 11:30am–9pm; Fri–Sat 11:30am– 10pm. SEAFOOD/STEAK.
At the back of a mall, convenient to the ferry landing, you'll find this large, casual restaurant. Walls of glass provide great views of the harbor and take in some stunning sunsets. A long menu nearly guarantees that you'll find something you like. We especially recommend the king salmon and top sirloin combo, but the salmon crabcakes are also very popular, and everyone raves about the clam chowder.
