Ghosts Among Us - James Van Praagh [25]
As I looked up the staircase, I could see the balustrade that surrounded the various offices on the second floor. A multitude of ghosts dressed in various costumes milled around these offices. A group of ghosts wearing khaki uniforms walked up the stairs. They looked as if they came right out of a war movie made in the early 1950s. At the same time, several chorus girls with colorful outfits passed them on their way down.
I turned and whispered to Danielle, “This place is definitely haunted.” Just then, I looked up and was immediately drawn to a woman descending the staircase wearing a yellow plantation dress and a yellow bow wrapped around her hair. She bowed her head and continued moving. A black gentleman who tapped down the steps followed her. I recognized the legendary Bill “Bojangles” Robinson from the Shirley Temple movie The Littlest Rebel.
It was quite an amazing experience of ghostly activity. When I went into my meeting, the first thing out of my mouth was, “Do you know how haunted this place is?” The producers just stared at me, completely unaware that they shared their environment with ghosts from another era.
Time spent on earth is one of learning. From a spiritual point of view, all that is expected of us is to love ourselves—not in a narcissistic sense, but to value ourselves for the spiritual beings we are. We are here to do the best we can and to treat others with compassion and kindness. The human level is a great school where our souls can learn and grow. If we can understand this, our transition to the other side can be easy and joyful.
Eventually, earthbound ghosts live out all of their earthly desires and have a sense that they want to experience something more. When they do, they are ready to move into the higher mental and spiritual dimensions.

The Spirit World
Over and over, I have been asked, “Where is the spirit world?” Unfortunately, there is no easy or simple answer to this question. To understand where and what the spirit world is, we must change our thinking. The spirit world is not a geographic place per se, not a location that can be found on a map. The spirit world is truly a state of energetic being.
The universe is made up of electromagnetic waves. We may not be physically aware of these waves of energy, but we know they exist because we see images on our televisions, we hear voices on our cell phones, and we eat food that is cooked in microwave ovens. These waves are individually and precisely tuned to a particular frequency so that they can function properly.
Like the electromagnetic waves of our physical universe, the spirit world consists of thousands, perhaps millions, of energy dimensions, and each one has its own distinct vibration. These vibrations overlap one another and therefore penetrate our physical world. Like the Internet, the spirit dimensions can interact with people all around the world without one person ever having to leave the privacy of his or her home. We may be unaware of the multitude of vibrations that surround us, but they exist nevertheless. Unfortunately, most people cannot tune in to these vibrations without some sort of training.
The dimensions of the spirit world are akin to the message in the Bible in John 14:2: “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.” I believe the “mansions” referred to here are the various spiritual dimensions. As a medium, I have the ability to penetrate these dimensions by raising my vibration to higher frequencies. Thus, I am able to be a conduit between the lower, slower physical world and the faster, vibratory dimensions of the unseen spiritual world. We can all be conduits if we put time and effort into
