Ghosts Among Us - James Van Praagh [37]

—or, as the expression goes, “tuning in to another person’s wavelength.” I ask students to enter a meditative state so that they can become more neutral to their surroundings. Then I ask them to concentrate on an individual, first by visualizing that person’s face as if he or she were right in front of them. Next, in their mind’s eye, they must act as though they are standing with the person and discussing something in extreme detail. At the end of their conversation, they are to instruct the other person to call them. After this exercise, I tell students to wait twenty-four hours for the individual to contact them. When the person calls, they must ask the person why he or she called. It is so interesting to see whether their discussion in the meditation is what they will talk about.

On the second day of one workshop weekend, two of my students told me at the lunch break that that very morning they had received messages on their cell phones from the people about whom they were meditating. So, you see, it really does work.

This is one exercise that has changed many people’s point of view about spirit energy and proven without a doubt that it is real. Depending on your ability to sense and control energy, you can begin to tune in to almost anything.

TUNING IN TO A GHOST’S ENERGY

Over the many years I have toured countries around the world, my psychic eyes have perceived energies both good and bad. When I see that a ghostly face has overshadowed a human face and the human has no idea of what’s going on, having allowed a ghostly energy to enter into his or her space, I often want to shake that person awake. I am not afraid when I see these dark, unevolved spirits, but when they suddenly pop up out of the blue and surprise me, I feel as though I am the host of a Halloween party. That brings me to the following incident.

Just recently, I was on a ten-day workshop tour in Australia. I always enjoy my travels because I get to observe the diversity of people around the world. I always find that although people look different and speak in different languages, everyone is really quite similar. On one of my afternoons off, I headed for the Oxford section of Sydney to buy something new to wear for that evening’s demonstration. My friends Ann and Peter joined me, and we strolled the area enjoying the sights and the variety of stores. We walked into a men’s shop where I found a great pair of blue trousers. There was one problem. If I wanted to wear them that evening, I had to get them hemmed. The shop owner pointed in the direction of a nearby tailor, and off we went. As we headed down the street, I noticed a shoe store and suddenly shouted, “Here they are!” “They” were a pair of perfect sandals that Peter had been looking for to wear at tour’s end at the Great Barrier Reef. The very tiny shoe store must have been all of two hundred square feet, and it was crowded with people. Peter tried on his sandals, and they fit perfectly. As he waited in line to pay the cashier, Ann and I browsed around.

Suddenly I started to get extremely uncomfortable and claustrophobic, as if the walls were closing in on me. I looked around for Ann, but she was on the other side of the shop, and several people stood between us. The feeling worsened, and I felt as if I were drowning and needed Ann to throw me a life preserver. I didn’t know what was going on, but I was in heavy distress. I looked over at Peter to tell him that I was going outside to wait. Just then, the man in front of him finished his transaction and, with his bag of shoes in hand, turned to leave. Our eyes met, and I almost screamed. Looking at me, almost through me, was the face of a skeleton superimposed over this man’s face. I felt very nauseated and knew I had to leave the store immediately. I grabbed Ann on my way out and told her what I had just observed. I kept pointing at the man who had left the store and was now halfway down the road. “He’s possessed!” I told her.

Finally, Peter emerged from the store while I was still feeling the impact of the vision. He said to us, “Something
