Hiring People_ Recruit and Keep the Brightest Stars - Kathy Shwiff [38]
Take notes: After a while, it’s hard to remember which candidate said what; feel free to mark up and make notations on the person’s resume.
Ask the candidate if she has questions: Find out if your prospect asks smart things.
Don’t make a snap decision: Choose your finalists and have somebody else in your company also interview them.
CHAPTER 3.
WELCOME ABOARD
Decide what salary and other compensation you can offer: Consider a performance-based bonus, profit sharing, or stock options in lieu of an initial salary hike.
Ensure your candidate is committed to staying: Replacing employees can be expensive.
Make the offer sooner rather than later: You don’t want your candidate to be snatched up by another employer.
Find out what worked and didn’t work in your hiring process: Ask your new employee what caught her eye and appealed to her and what, if anything, made her hesitate.
Strive for excellence: Set goals and set up a schedule for attaining these goals.
Allowing your employee upward mobility is a win-win situation: You get a loyal and skilled employee who is satisfied with her job.
