THE INSTITUTE FOR THE ARTS OF DEMOCRACY responds to the worldwide search for meaningful, effective forms of democracy. We promote democracy not only as a set of formal institutions but as a rewarding way of life.

We work to awaken citizens in every walk of life to the possibility of citizen democracy. We catalyze concerned citizens and convene community leaders to work effectively to build citizen democracy. We create opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn and develop the “arts” of effective public engagement. We document and bring the lessons of citizen democracy to national attention from initiatives in education, the media, and political and economic life in which citizens are already asserting authority and assuming responsibility for public problem solving.
