Instant Interviews_ 101 Ways to Get the Best Job of Your Life - Jeffrey G. Allen [64]
That’s why humans succeed and computers short out. We have a sixth sense in our mind that processes all of our sensory input. Computers have a brain that takes in a keystroke or a mouse click and processes it as a command.
Every successful jobgetter got the job by acing an interview. If you investigate, it wasn’t some digitally constructed job. The person doesn’t resemble the job specs (Do 26). The decision by the employer was based on raw instinct, pure and simple. But how did the jobseeker even know to apply? Why her and not you?
She recognized the choices (let’s call that awareness) and then she followed her instinct.
Become Aware of Your Interview Options
Awareness is not the same as analysis. That’s why career counselors are so dangerous.
They live in a world of do-you-like tests with yes-no questions, forms with plus-minus boxes to evaluate different jobs and resumes with rigid choices (chronological, functional, or a combination thereof).
That is a primary reason why so-called career counseling can’t possibly lead to self-fulfillment.
So forget that stuff.
Instead, learn to really relax. Deeply.
Relaxation gets your conscious mind out of the way so your subconscious mind surfaces. This is a metaphorical way of saying that when you relax properly, daily static stops bombarding you, and you gain perspective.
When we talked about I.I. on planes, I mentioned that I listened to self-hypnosis recordings on my MP3 player (Do 38).
Every day of my adult life I have either meditated or listened to self-hypnosis recordings for at least 45 minutes.
My blood pressure is low, my energy is high, my age is a number.
This is what happens physiologically when you relax using either traditional meditation (repeating a word to yourself) or guided relaxation (listening to a self-hypnosis recording). In recent years, I’ve used self-hypnosis because it’s active, not passive. It works wonders to help you improve yourself beyond merely heightening awareness. So you can lose weight, stop smoking, and generally self-improve while you’re instanting better and better.
I’m absolutely convinced that whatever internal centering, creativity, and energy I have is a direct result of this disciplined relaxation. I interviewed instinctively where I thought I’d fit, totally ignoring job requirements. I nailed those interviews almost every time too, because I instinctively did what would incite an offeror to extend that offer.
I’ll lay it out for you as I’ve done for so many megasuccessful jobseekers.
Know How Self-Hypnosis Heightens Instinct
You’ve undoubtedly found yourself parking in some office building lot to I.I. and didn’t even remember driving there. Perhaps even actually interviewing with some excited offeror but thinking about an interview you just instanted.
These are two typical examples of how your conscious mind gets you through the day while your subconscious has a mind of its own. That mind is where the instinct often remains inactive because external noise literally overpowers those powers at the conscious level.
Self-hypnosis safely, effortlessly, and automatically causes your conscious mind to recede and allows your subconscious mind to tap into your instinct.
That’s all you need to understand. That and how to awaken the giant within.
Instantly Tap into Your Subconscious
This is a huge way to increase important instants. The formula is:
Intent + Instinct = Instant Interviews
Intent gets your mind sharply focused. Instinct guides it; then your limbs and mouth are moving in the right way. The activity takes care of itself.
If you use a combination lock frequently, you don’t think about the combo—you just do it. Same jukebox, different tune.
Now, write down one concise but very specific sentence stating three qualities of your dream job.
