Make Me Over_ Getting Real - Leslie Kelly [45]
“Well, isn’t it?”
She shook her head and met his stare, her eyes clear, her expression somber. “Not when it comes to you.”
He studied her face, searching for answers to un-asked questions. “It’s only a TV show, but you’re still starting something that could change your whole life,” he said softly. “Now’s not the time for you to make any big decisions.”
Tori slid closer, then closer, until there was no room on the couch for him to back away. “This isn’t a tough decision, Drew. I want you to be my lover. Whether it’s just for tonight, or for the next week. Whoever I turn out to be at the end of all this, I will never regret taking whatever I can get for as long as I can get it.”
Leaning up, she brushed her lips against his. Asking. Demanding. Questioning. Offering.
And he was no longer able to resist.
Drew sunk his hands into her hair and held her tight to deepen the kiss. Languorous and wet, their tongues met and danced in lazy, sultry intimacy.
When they drew apart, Tori said, “Was I right? Do I understand why you’ve been trying so hard to not let things go too far?”
He gave one slow nod.
“My God,” she said with a laugh, “I feel like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, when the good witch tells her she always had the power to go back home. She just needed to learn it for herself.”
“You gonna click your heels together?” he asked.
She licked her lips and eyed him hungrily. “Only if I can do it while my legs are wrapped around your hips.”
T ORI KNEW BY THE LOOK on Drew’s face, and the groan he couldn’t contain, that he had reached the end of his rope. Her wicked words had helped him, which was, of course, exactly why she’d said them. The mental picture of her bare legs wrapped around his lean hips while he thrust into her until she lost her mind brought instant warmth—and moisture—to her body.
She wanted him desperately. Now more than ever.
Lord love him for being a decent enough guy to wait until she was really ready, in every way, including emotionally. Physically, yeah, she’d been wanting him since day one.
But emotionally? Well, maybe he was right. She was already a different person than she’d been two weeks ago when she’d flown up from Tennessee. And she knew she’d have to face those changes in herself once she left here. How perceptive of him to know that.
Most men wouldn’t have thought twice about taking what she’d offered. Drew Bennett, however, wasn’t most men. He was different. Wonderfully, perfectly different. Smart and sexy, kind and thoughtful. Sassy and dry-humored. Everything she’d ever fantasized about having in a man but never believed she’d ever really find. All wrapped up in a gorgeous package that was hers for the taking.
Hers. For tonight at least.
For the first time, Tori felt a tingling of concern run through her body. Because she couldn’t fool herself into thinking she only liked the man. Drew wasn’t the kind of man you simply liked, or lusted after.
He was the kind who stole hearts. Maybe even hers.
“Tori?” he said, his voice thick. He was watching her, waiting for whatever was going to happen next.
No doubt about that. No matter what happened tomorrow, or next week, for tonight, Tori Lyons was gonna get her man. Whoever that fool woman was who’d chosen money over him oughta have her head examined because this was about the most desirable man she’d ever seen in her life.
Swiveling her body, she slid one leg across him and sat on his lap, facing him. He didn’t look a bit surprised that she’d landed on his lap—again.
“Kinda like the night we met,” she murmured, wriggling a bit as she moved her face closer until they were nose to nose. Then she leaned in and licked his lips, daring his tongue to come out and play.
He groaned again, rising up a little so she could feel just how affected he was.
“Oh, my,” she whispered. Because he was very, very affected. “I feel like I’m gonna die if I don’t have you.” Her voice
