Motivation “The Quest for Knowledge”
What motivates you? I think this is best done as an inner exercise. There is always a thread or two through everything we do. I've discovered that learning is the key for me. To discover, to think new thoughts and to combine ideas in new ways excites me. For you it may be helping others, or being accurate, or responsible and so on. Sometimes the answer pops up immediately and you are clear as a bell on your inner motivation. Other times you have to work harder to see the thread. Don't worry, the insights you really need will come to you when you truly need them. It is human to want to know now and be impatient, however our spiritual lesson is to learn to trust. Sigh, such a hard lesson for some of us to learn as that impatient kid inside bounces up and down demanding to know now!
Mission “To be a Catalyst for Change”
Understanding our mission is a key piece. My job is to be a catalyst. I'm not here to take you through years of training or to provide all the answers. I'm here to stir the pot, to plant new seeds.
There have been entire books written on the subject of life mission, so to expect a simple exercise to cover it all won't do. But I can get you started and perhaps my exercise will give you what you need for now. If you want to dig deeper there's lots more material out there.
So how do you figure out your mission, the why you are here? And while we are on the subject, there are many ways and several statements that can cover your mission. I also have as a mission to change the role of women on the planet. I do this simply by being myself. But it could also entail political engagement. The how you carry it out can vary a lot.
What is a life mission? Remember the religious notion of a calling, a vocation? This is far beyond a job. Each person on this earth is here for a specific reason.
Janene Jurgensen, whose life mission was to help other people find their life mission, wrote:
“A true life mission is life/work that is in perfect harmony with all levels of one's being and in alignment with the good of the whole. It will stimulate, excite, challenge, stretch and support. It will not compromise values, jeopardize health or stress emotions.
There are many levels to our being. These are sometimes referred to as bodies. Our causal body (also sometimes called the memory body) holds detailed records of our previous incarnations. It also contains a matrix related to one's life mission. The Life Mission Matrix is derived from past life records. It is an exact accounting of how one can balance the accumulation of karmic debt through doing specific service, their life mission.
The Life Mission Matrix is located in the Causal Body at the solar plexus chakra or Will Center. Alignment with this matrix requires attunement with the whole or with Divine Will. When one is aligned and resonating with the Life Mission Matrix each atom, molecule and cell in the lower bodies is charged with the vibration of the mission.”
Your life mission is a main driver in anything you do. One therapy colleague stops at nothing to help people heal. Another leaves no stone unturned when she works on you. Some of my other therapy colleagues have missions that focus on teaching, on developing training material and course structure. A mission is always tied in with what excites you about life and your work. Ok you say, “this is all very interesting, but where is the exercise you promised on life mission?” You need wait no longer, for here it is:
In a way it's simple and yet it is not. The exercise is to pray and then wait for the answer. My life mission is now revealed to me by the Divine Source is the only statement you need to make. Do adapt the prayer to fit your beliefs and religion and rituals. Then know in your heart that you will be answered. The answer may come soon or it may come after a long wait. It may come as a vague sense or clear as a bell. It may come symbolically in a dream or as a statement
