with anything else, and neither was I, it was so in the moment.

Talking to a special man, making eye contact, happened a couple of times, the looking into each others eyes and sharing what was there, I was open to him looking into me, reading me, and he let me read him.

Having astral sex, it was so full of love, so complete and whole and healing.

Lover telling me he loved me in my pink curlers and fuzzy slippers in the morning.

Walking in the fields, or woods, after it rains, it is so fresh and earthy smelling.

The sound of snow, it gets so quiet.

Eating hot dogs at Walters, with real mashed potatoes.

Talking on the telephone and getting an aha about a concept or something going on in my life, like on the whole concept of Grace, discussing ideas freely just to explore them, try them on.

Eating hot and sour soup and mongolian beef with best friend, special delivery from Hunan Harbor.

The feeling of freedom of making my last condo mortgage payment.

Eating steak, potato, little peas, béarnaise sauce and red wine, such happiness.

Eating cherries and laughing and joking with all the guys, there must have been five of them in my office. We had such a loud good time our boss came and asked us to hold it down in there.

Playing in the bubble bath in the morning, playing with the bubbles, making little animals.

Not getting dressed all day, staying in bed or in bathrobe, reading, eating and sleeping.

Talking and laughing with the secretaries, when the guys were out. Doing a rendition of Sur le pont d'Avignon complete with gestures.

Dancing to the Heats with my dance buddy. That total letting go, enjoy, don't have to worry what you look like, just enjoy the music.

Listening to Viennese music, the Strauss in particular, so happy.

Seeing mists rise in the morning around the trees, over the Loire.

An early morning walk on the beach at Sete by myself.

Reading with ex, after we'd gone to the library to get stacks of books we'd curl up on the couch and read to each other.

Having the sun wake me up in the morning.

Seattle in the sunlight with the mountains so clear and the water so blue, it's one of the most breathtaking sights there is.

Getting a hug from a male friend, so complete and so warm, and so sexual.

Hugging my brother, feeling that total love, he gives real hugs.

Singing, “all I want for Christmas is a well hung man” to the tune of “all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth” with best friend after she lay out hung on the Scrabble board.

So far none of these have to do with work or school, but some have to do with learning, many sensuality, spontaneity, bliss and nature.

Hearing the sound of the surf at the beach.

Playing in the water with friend and her kids.

Riding horses and being around them when I was a kid.

Seeing Paris in the morning light going to work.

The pretty Christmas lights on the Champs Elysees.

Fire works on Lake Union on the fourth of July.

More recently I had a very joyful moment when my first book came out. The euphoria and expansiveness I experienced when I held the real book in my hand was exquisite. It lasted for days, no weeks. Truly an extended joyful moment. I glowed! One friend exclaimed, “it must be better than sex” - no I don't think so, it's not the same but it's right up there with peak experiences.

Peak experiences

I didn't coin the term peak experiences. Regina Pontow did. I went to her workshop on resume writing, where I learned an exercise to discover your peak experience skills. I'll tell you about the basic premise and you can ponder your own peak experience skills.

Peak experience is another term for joyful moment. It occurs when you do something you really like, where time goes by without your notice. In this exercise it is connected with work type skills, but the clues can be found in childhood. What you are looking for are activities that you do naturally and with ease.
