Chau Au–Europa 76 Nguyen Chi Thanh 063/382 2870, europa@hcm.vnn.vn. Professionally run place with a range of rooms. All are dazzlingly clean with homely touches – an extra $5 secures a front room with view. Staff are extremely helpful and there’s free internet and wi-fi. US$11–20

Golf 3 4 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai 063/382 6042, www.vinagolf.vn. Part of the Golf empire, an upmarket tower-block hotel situated slap-bang in the centre of town. Choose from a selection of comfortable suites or cheaper standard rooms. US$51–150
Hoa Binh I 64 Truong Cong Dinh 063/382 2787. Budget hotel that’s reliably popular with backpackers. All rooms have hot water and private bathrooms, and some have balconies with views of the busy street below – or opt for quieter rooms with a terrace at the back. There’s also a cheap and popular café downstairs. US$10 and under–20
Hoa Binh II 67 Truong Cong Dinh 063/382 2982. Small, cosy auberge-style hotel just around the corner from its sister hotel, with the same good-value rooms, all with hot water and generous-sized bathrooms and, as before, friendly staff. US$10 and under–20
Hoang Hau Villa 8a Ho Tung Mau 063/382 1431. Just below the GPO, this appealing mini-hotel has an art gallery and café in the lobby, and well-appointed rooms, some with balconies; breakfast is included. US$11–30

This new complex of luxury villas located in spacious grounds just outside the city centre and boasting every conceivable comfort vies with the Sofitel Dalat Palace for the title of fanciest place to stay in Da Lat. Binh Yen 7 Hai Thuong 063/382 3631. Tucked away at the top of Hai Thuong and overlooking parts of the city, there’s much to like about the Binh Yen’s location and helpful staff. Rooms are nothing special, but all have hot water and TVs, and there’s free wi-fi too. US$11–20
Dinh II (Palace 2 Guest House) 12 Tran Hung Dao 063/382 2092. If you fancy living like a colonial but can’t afford the rates at the Dalat Palace or Ana Mandara, then this is your spot. The huge rooms in the main house, once home to the French governor, are beautifully furnished and the complex is surrounded by pines. US$21–75
Novotel Dalat 7 Tran Phu 063/382 5777, www.accorhotels.com. A sympathetically restored colonial edifice that plays second fiddle to the more expensive Sofitel Dalat Palace nearby. Pleasing, well-ventilated rooms with elegant interiors and polished wooden floors. US$51–150
