Real bitches drink tea. If you don’t know your antioxidant count from your loose-leafs, well, I hate to pull the fine china out from under you, Ms. Thang. You ain’t worth your crumpets in tea bags.

If you want to impress Mum at the next gathering, I suggest you push the term coffee break out of your high-brow vocabulary for a moment, and get acquainted with a handful of some of the healthiest teas in the pantry. Coffee was never your cup of tea, anyway.

GREEN TEA: Green tea is pulling plenty of antioxidants and high in a very powerful polyphenol called catechin. Catechins are thought to be responsible for green tea’s cancer-fighting properties, which may protect against a slew of cancers, including those of the bladder, colon, esophagus, pancreas, rectum, and stomach. Green tea also helps to protect against cardiovascular disease, lowers LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and blood sugar, and triggers the release of the “feel-good” chemical, dopamine. And for those who think the coffee diet is a smart way to shed that double chin, think again. Green tea helps burn some major calories.

BLACK TEA: Carrying similar anticancer properties to green tea, black tea helps reduce the production of total and LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, and lowers triglycerides associated with cardiovascular disease. Black tea also cuts your risk of heart attack and stroke by improving blood vessel function.132

BITCHWORTHY: TO GET THE AMOUNT OF ANTIOXIDANTS FOUND IN TWO CUPS OF BLACK TEA, YOU’D HAVE TO DRINK ONE GLASS OF RED WINE, SEVEN GLASSES OF ORANGE JUICE AND TWENTY GLASSES OF APPLE JUICE. HOPE YOU’RE SITTING CLOSE TO THE POTTY. 133

CHAMOMILE TEA: A must-have in my household, chamomile tea is a great reliever for cramps, irritable bowel syndrome, insomnia, anxiety, and the stomach flu. Overworked and exhausted? Steep a chamomile tea bag in warm water for five minutes, let cool to room temperature, lay on your eyes, and relax.

WHITE TEA: Let me let you in on a little secret. White tea packs more antioxidants than any other tea. It is also the least processed of the crew and higher in polyphenols. White tea helps to strengthen bones; aids in detoxification; promotes healthy teeth, gums, and skin; and acts as an antibacterial.

MINT TEA: Mint tea is one of the best herbs for the digestive system. Sip a cup to calm belly aches, combat gas, relax stomach muscles, and keep your system free of bad bacteria. Mint tea also relaxes your nervous system to ward off stress and anxiety. If you feel a cold coming on, the mint herb is a pro at relieving flu symptoms.134

The Pink Fizzy

Yes, this Skinny Bitch is saying “Let’s Drink Ladies”! Everyone has something to celebrate on occasion, and when you do, look no further. The juices blend so well with the sparkling wine, and you get a healthy dose of pomegranates.

MAKES 4 SERVINGS

Handful of pomegranate seeds

½ cup (120 ml) pomegranate juice

½ cup (120 ml) pink grapefruit juice

1 cup (240 ml) sparkling wine,

such as Champagne

Divide the handful of pomegranate seeds among 4 Champagne flutes. In a large measuring cup, add the pomegranate and pink grapefruit juices and stir until mixed. Pour 2 ounces of the juice into each Champagne flute. Top each glass with 2 ounces of sparkling wine.

Skinny Lemonade


The Skinny Lemonade is perfect for lounging poolside with girlfriends. And since it comes in at just under 100 calories per serving, it looks like you may be able to show off that new bikini, too.

SERVES 2

1½ ounces (45 ml) VeeV Açaí Spirit

½ ounce (15 ml) agave nectar

2 lemon wedges

Club soda

Lemon wedges, for garnish

Combine the VeeV and agave nectar in a shaker filled with ice; squeeze in the juice from the lemon wedges and shake well. Strain into 2 ice-filled rocks glasses and top with club soda. Garnish with lemon wedges.
