The Complete Idiot's Guide to 2012 - Dr. Synthia Andrews Nd [124]
We don’t need to tell you how much the cost of living is rising. You’re living with the effects every day. Let’s take a creative approach. Purification is essentially getting rid of what isn’t working, isn’t needed, or is just plain taking your energy. It’s an opportunity to look at your priorities and evaluate whether they serve your better good or not. Everyone needs food, clothing, and water, but do you need the most expensive restaurants, the best house, and designer clothes? What will you have to change in your self-identity to feel good about yourself with less?
Making choices around spending is tough. You can’t just “disappear” your credit card debt, but you can cut costs. When you come home at night, do you turn on the lights in all the rooms in the house? Keep them on only in the rooms you go in and out of? Or do you turn the lights on and off as you go in and out of rooms? Do you heat the whole house or turn it off in the rooms you’re not using? These things sound too simple to count, but consider the difference between how we live and how our grandparents lived. What we waste every day is more than they lived on in a month.
How you spend money is a reflection of your self-identity. Your financial picture reflects to the world who you are. Is this a picture of who you want to be or who you really are? If not, what choices are you making that don’t reflect your true self?
Pure Water
Finding pure water will likely get harder in the days to come. However, it’s essential for good health to drink pure water. You’re probably making good choices, but here are a few things you might need to know.
Chapter 17 already talked about pollution and poor water quality. Many people are drinking bottled water instead. The number of water bottles sold went from 3.3 billion in 1997 to 15 billion in 2002. Unfortunately, bottled water is one of the worst choices you can make. Why? Because the plastic bottle is leaching poisons into the water that you’re drinking. This is especially true when you leave your water out in a hot car, or worse yet, microwave it. The type of bottle you’re using determines the type of poison you’re ingesting. You may be getting bisphenol A, which is a xenoestrogen, or estrogen-mimicking substance. It’s linked to breast and uterine cancer in women, low testosterone in men, Type II diabetes, and many hormone-related diseases.
Another sad but true fact is the cost to the environment of water bottle waste. Remember that mountain of plastic floating in the Pacific Ocean? Not only does this clog the guts of sea birds and fish, it also adds estrogens into the environment. Getting rid of plastic water bottles is high on the list of personal priority!
Codex Cues
Here are some websites for good water purification systems. Be sure to pick the type of system that’s best for you. After you filter your water, use glass or ceramic water bottles for carrying or storing your drinking water. Check out www.tersano.com, www.costpluswater.com, and www.freedrinkingwater.com.
Your best choice for pure water is filtered tap water. You want more than an activated charcoal filter system, though. Other choices include ozonators or UV systems along with activated charcoal filters. These usually get the majority of chemicals and bacteria out. If you’re worried about the pharmaceuticals in the water supply, you need to clean your water with reverse-osmosis machines. What system you want to use will depend on whether you have a well or city water; what city or state you’re in; and obviously how clean your water already is.
Pure Food
Finding pure food is also a pretty big challenge. Animal products are rife with added hormones and antibiotics. Plant foods are subject to genetic modification, pesticides, and toxic fertilizer. It seems like our food is under attack! Eating organic is the best choice you can make short of growing your own food, something you might want to consider. But be aware, the FDA has changed the labeling laws so that not everything that says organic is organic! Another
