The Complete Idiot's Guide to 2012 - Dr. Synthia Andrews Nd [66]

By Root 1491 0
is a synopsis taken from lectures and writings of Hopi Elders Thomas Banacyca and Dan Evehema; The Book of the Hopi by Frank Waters; and the words of a man named White Feather as told to Reverend David Young in 1958.

The Worlds of Creation

Like the Maya, the Hopi believe there have been four or five previous worlds that have been destroyed as part of a purification process. Purification was necessary to cleanse the world from corruption and greed. The majority agree that this is the fourth world, but some believe it is the fifth.

Humans were created in four colors as part of the fourfold creation process: four directions, four elements, etc. Each color or race has ruled one world. The last world was ruled by the red race, the present world by the white race, and the next world will be ruled by the yellow race. This is a tradition shared by the Toltec/Aztec wisdom schools as well.

Celestial Connection

The belief in four guardians, colors, directions, and elements is not exclusive to indigenous cultures of the Americas. Similar beliefs are found in Celtic lore, Egyptian legend, and the Aborigine in Australia. The concept is found in Sanskrit as the Four Kings or Guardians of the world, in Chinese as the Four Heavenly Kings, and in Korea, Japan, and Tibet as well.

At the creation of the fourth (or fifth) world, humans were told to travel to all four corners of the world and keep the ways of the Great Spirit. The Hopi stayed on the Oraibi Mesa to keep the sacred ceremonies for the return of the Great Spirit. The white race went to the east. The Hopi were told in their prophecy that the white man would return bringing either peace and harmony or destruction. Eventually the true white brother would return to help the Hopi transform the continent into a spiritual paradise: the fifth world.

The Hopi and the Maya both have a legend of coming to this land from either tunnels under the water or by boats after the destruction of their homeland by floods and fire. Both seem to refer to Atlantis as the home base. Both also have a legend that the white brothers, Kukulkan or Pahana, leave to the east promising to return and bring peace and harmony.

Prophecy Stone

The Hopi have a prophecy stone that has been preserved for thousands of years. It contains a pictogram of the prophecy. The Hopi were told they would recognize the true “white brother” (called Pahana) because he would come with a fragment of stone that would fit into and complete the prophecy stone.

The return of the true white brother is eagerly awaited. It’s abundantly clear that the white man who did return brought destruction. The Hopi are charged with keeping the traditional ways and traditional lands and to assist the passage into the fifth world. It’s their duty to their family, the animals, and all of nature to keep this land protected and in harmony.

The prophecy stone holds the signs we are to watch for to know which road we follow and where we are on the journey.

Signs

There are nine main signs that are referred to in the Hopi prophecy related to the road society is taking. The prophecy states that when the nine signs have all been fulfilled, the fourth world will end and the fifth will begin. As you read the signs and their interpretations, you may agree with many Hopis who say that there are few signs left to fulfill. The signs are said to have been relayed by White Feather of the Bear Clan of the Hopi tribe and were written in Frank Waters’s 1963 book, The Book of the Hopi (Penguin Books, 1977). Waters lived with the Hopi for three years while writing his book. Here’s a condensed version of the signs, which can be read directly in Waters’ book.

The first sign refers to the coming of Europeans to America. The people who arrive on Native lands are described as “white-skinned” people who steal the land of the Native tribes. They carry “thunder sticks” with which they strike the tribes. Thunder sticks are thought to be guns.

The second sign foretells of the coming of covered wagons across the plains. They’re described as “spinning wheels filled
