masters in the end times. The Hopi, the Maya, the Egyptians, the keys of Enoch. It’s a pervasive cross-culture belief.

Return of Christ

After evil is slain, 1,000 years of peace will follow. The 144,000 are kept safe in the city of god. The streets are made of gold and the walls are made of jasper and apparently sorrow and crying are over. “Death is no more.”

What Does It All Mean?

As you can imagine, there have been many times in the past when political unrest, disease epidemics, or war convinced people the end times had arrived. Today people are again wondering if the end times are here. The war in the Middle East is being called the beginning of Armageddon, and everyone has their own favorite applicant for antichrist.

Cosmic Caution

By focusing so much attention on which signs of a prophecy have been fulfilled and looking for confirmation of what is coming, we’re in danger of creating the outcome we’re looking at. We need to be careful how we think, because our thoughts can create the reality!

The third seal that speaks to the cost of wheat and barley is thought to indicate economic distress. (Maybe we can substitute the word “oil” for “wheat and barley.”)

The only link to 2012, however, is the description of the sun turning black, the moon turning red, the stars falling from the sky, and the mountains and islands changing position. You probably recognize this as what can happen with a pole reversal. Actually it sounds extreme enough to describe a pole shift, where the crust of the planet actually moves. (See Chapter 10 for a refresher on this.) As with Nostradamus and Edgar Cayce, discussed next, it’s not the date of 2012 that the predictions relate to, but the earth changes people expect might happen in 2012.

Edgar Cayce: The Sleeping Prophet

Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) has been heralded as one of the greatest prophets of all time. He gave over 14,000 readings in his career, focusing on health, spirituality, and the origin and destiny of man. He also had a considerable amount to say about the end times.

Born in a small Kentucky town, Cayce came into his talent when he was 21. Threatened with throat paralysis, he went into a spontaneous trance, giving himself a health reading. His prescription and treatment restored his voice. In addition to the 14,000 personal consults, 300 books have been written on the content of the readings.

Cayce used a hypnotic trance to perform his readings. He simply lay down, went through a hypnotic exercise, and went to sleep. His super-conscious mind provided the answers. Cayce himself never remembered the content, earning himself the title of Sleeping Prophet. In fact, as a solid Methodist he had serious conflict with some of the content of the readings he gave. However, because the readings provided people with such help, he continued to provide them.

Past Prophecy

Cayce correctly predicted the start and end of both the first and second world wars. He predicted the deaths of two presidents in office, the civil rights movement, and the Depression. He dated the sphinx at 10,500 years old, a date that has since been confirmed. In 1935, he spoke of the coming holocaust in Germany. His track record is significantly better than most psychics, which is why he has such a long-standing following. His readings are specific and leave little ambiguity as to their meaning.

Cayce’s End-Time Predictions

Edgar Cayce’s prophecies of the end times are often used to support 2012 scenarios. However, he never gave 2012 as an end-time date. He predicted the end times would happen within a generation of his prediction, which places it between 1958 and 1998. So far, the end-time scenario has not happened in the time-frame given. Although the basic prophecy fits, the only relationship to the timing and 2012 is the possibility of a pole shift. And the pole shift is not a definite for 2012 (or anytime in the next few hundred years).

Here are some highlights of Cayce’s end-time prophecies:
