in a medicine increases the expectation for receiving what is wanted. Enthusiastic expectation is a perfect state of mind for allowing the manifestation of one’s desire, because, therein, any resistance to this manifestation is significantly diminished.

“Hold your primary intent for using a medicine clearly in mind. Employ the help of your medicine to accent your intention to experience health and well-being. Use it with the conscious intent to feel good, to manifest vitality, to attract prosperity or whatever else you seek. This clear intent, bolstered by your belief that the medicine will assist you strongly directs your signal to attract the experience of whatever it is that you want. This fertilizes the seeds of self-healing and intentional creating.

“Do not mis-create by using medicine with the idea of ‘getting rid of’ what you don’t want, or to ‘fix’ something that is ‘broken,’ or to attack disease and so forth; for these vibrational offerings, in the attempt to exclude, will merely attract those very things you do not want by focusing attention on them. By focusing attention on symptoms or on past ‘causes,’ one is not moving away from the unwanted experience, but instead is lingering in the thoughts, statistics, visual images, and the feelings of their ‘dis-ease,’ prolonging the experience of that which is not wanted. Avoid reacting to what is. Rather, create the tone of that which you want.

“Symptoms of dis-ease are the manifestations brought about by an individual’s past thoughts, beliefs, and mental attitude. It is important to realize that one has no power to change what has passed. One’s full power, the power to change what is, lies solely in the present, wherein one can envision, feel, and consciously create the nature of future experiences.

“Once disease symptoms—reflections of inner disharmony—have ignited the realization that they are not what one wants, these manifestations have done their job. It is important to appreciate the powerful teaching they afford, but there is no longer any value in focusing further attention on them. Acknowledge that they stem from past attitude, and that it is this attitude, and its attendant thoughts, that must be revised in order to change one’s experiences. Identify those thoughts and beliefs that illicit a sense of uneasiness within you, thoughts that do not feel good to you, but for whatever reasons you have continued to hold on to and prolong. These are the thoughts that resist the flow of your true nature. What is appropriate now is to decide what is wanted and to focus creative thought totally and passionately on the visions ignited by that decision.

“Regardless of present circumstances and despite the etiology of an illness’s manifestation, ones full power as a creator of future experiences, as a self-healer, lies entirely here in the present. Use medicine as a mantra that magnifies the vibrations of your intent; let your medicines echo the vibrations of your impassioned desire to regain the experience of your innate health, vitality, and well-being.”

Asclepius, who, at his young age, had already shown himself to be a remarkable physician, was clearly fascinated by the significance of Chiron’s counsel on the use of medicine. He immediately asked him to elaborate on how, then, the knowledge and compassion of the herbalist and the physician can help heal another being.

“Physicians and herbalists, like medicine, can be distinct allies for a person who regards and trusts them. They are influential companions for anyone who believes they can help them and have requested this help. An attending herbalist or physician can skillfully soothe and mend another person’s physical malaise and make them more comfortable, but herbalists and physicians do not ‘heal’ others, no one heals another.” Chiron emphasized, “One can only heal oneself.

“When I use the term heal, I mean reconnecting to one’s Source energy by one’s removal of inner resistance to the flow of life force, so that inner ease returns, harmony between one’s mind and spirit is reestablished, and the experience
