The Herbal Medicine-Maker's Handbook_ A Home Manual - James Green [187]
“A wise practitioner views illness not as an affliction, but instead as an explicit teacher in one’s life. The experienced practitioner also knows that, if disease symptoms are merely palliated, and the teachings these symptoms offer are ignored, the individual will soon re-experience the effects of illness in the same or in yet another form. An external remedy offers no cure if a person has not established mental ease. If one’s spirit is not heard, the rhythm of mind is broken, and the mark of a person’s illness remains there.
“To assist another’s healing, herbalists and physicians should consider using their thoughts more to visualize, less to analyze, seeing their client’s innate health and well-being, not using the time so much to scrutinize a person’s symptoms of dis-ease. Guide the person to reveal how he can restore his experience of health. Ask him what he wants in his life and once he identifies this, ask him why he wants it. Further indulgence in this liberated flow of desire will increase the passion of his vision and animate his determination. Enter into the joy and passion of the realizations that come forth, and accompany him in his vision wherever he wants to take it. Accompany him in the creative power of his daydreams, for these are the exhilarating passageways his spirit has opened to his heart and mind. Assure him of his ability to manifest his dreams and his worthiness to have, and to be, and to do whatever he wants. Encourage him to explore his bliss, uplift him and assure him of his well-being. Inspire him to find the desires of his true self and feel the deeply nourishing feelings of connecting in a positive way with them. This is a trusted ally’s power and purpose, a gift of medicine, a practitioner’s joy.
“A compassionate herbalist’s or physician’s finest service is to focus on their client’s innate health, radiate an uplifting attitude, and assist the client to make heartfelt sense of their experience of illness. This juncture initiates a highly creative momentum. Referencing the client’s experience of illness as a provocative manifestation of what the individual no longer wants to create, relating to dis-ease merely as a powerfully motivating experience from which to decide and envision what feels good and what is now clearly preferred, the practitioner assures the client, without a shadow of doubt, that this illness by nature is a temporary condition. The herbalist embraces the client’s impassioned preferences as the birth of a resplendent idea upon which the client can build an ever more enlightened vision, generating greater and greater enthusiasm and vitality for attracting what is now clearly desired, releasing resistance to what is wanted.”
At this point Chiron wished to elaborate on the topic of compassion, for he knew the confusion many individuals experience around this emotion and concurrent feelings of empathy. He was very aware how the focus of one’s feeling of empathy can impinge on one’s power to assist another’s healing. Chiron took a few moments to choose his words precisely, then he said, “The truest essence of compassion is a very high, pure vibration—it stems from a deep understanding of well-being.
“The greatest compassion a health seer and counselor—a health ally—can offer another is, I know without a shadow of doubt that well-being is your true experience—that very high passionate vibration of well-being, having no resistance within it.”
“However, when most individuals use the word ‘compassion,’ they are looking at some suffering individual who is in a desperate situation and feeling empathy for where they are—and that is of no benefit at all.
“When a health counselor holds someone as their object of attention from a place of knowing their innate wellness—they may be temporarily not well—but as a health seer knows their true well-being, they set the tone of the consultation. The counselor floods the energy field with a pure, positive, resistance-free vibration; and the client’s vibration readily acclimates to this higher vibration.
