AMARANDUS the Lion: the dramatic and talkative leader of the Bright Blade and Hope of Aglirta adventuring band; a warrior possessed of a rich, mellifluous voice and a striking black spade beard.
AMBELTER, INGRYL: Spellmaster of Silvertree and strongest wizard of the Three (the Dark Three), the unscrupulous, evil mages who served Baron Faerod Silvertree; ambitious, shrewd in the ways of life and politics in the Vale, he's a creative and very powerful spellweaver; though slain in The Kingless Land, he seems to have found a way to live on, beyond death.
ANDALUS of Sirl: "the Fang," an infamous slayer-for-hire killed by his rival "Velvetfoot" Luthtuth; known for wearing a grinning "battle ghost" feast-mask while working (battle ghosts are the vengeful spirits of jovial warriors slain on the battlefield with tasks left undone; they haunt and goad the living in many plays of Darsar, always with dark humor).
ANHARU, HAWKRIL: "the Boar of Blackgult," an armaragor (unranked battle knight) in the service of the Baron Blackgult, whom he was once personal bodyguard to; a man of unusually large build and strength; member of the Band of Four and longtime friend and sword-companion of Craer Delnbone, who often calls him "Tall Post."
BAERETHOS, YAULN: an old, incompetent wizard of Cardassa, sage (advisor) to the Baron; a sharp-tongued, fussy old man, and a bitter rival of Ubunter.
BAERGIN: The Delcamper House Minstrel, sometime harp tutor of Flaeros Delcamper-and Serpent agent.
BAERUND, ILISKER: Tersept (non-noble ruler) of the fallen barony of Tarlagar, now much recovered in importance and prosperity; a ruthless, bold man who few know is an accomplished wizard, and who has no hesitation in conspiring against the Risen King; note that the last appearance of "the Tersept of Tarlagar" in The Vacant Throne is a magical disguise assumed by the wizard Tharlorn of the Thunders.
Band of Four, the: our heroes, the King's Heroes, the Awakeners of the Risen King; an independent band of four adventurers thrown together in The King-less Land (see Anharu, Hawkril; Codelmer, Sarasper; Delnbone, Craer; and Silvertree, Embra), whose adventures bid fair to change the face of Aglirta.
BELKLARRAVUS, GLARSIMBER: Tersept (non-noble ruler) of Sart (an independent town formerly in the barony of Brightpennant); a stout, brawny warrior going to fat, but still infamous from his days as a mercenary war captain, "the Smiling Wolf of Sart"; longtime rival of Daragus of Gilth.
BLACKGULT, EZENDOR: Baron (Lord) of Blackgult, known as the Golden Griffon for his heraldic badge, rival to Faerod Silvertree for rule of Aglirta and leader of a disastrous attack on (planned conquering of) the Isles of Ieirembor just prior to The Kingless Land, which resulted in the seizure of his lands by Silvertree, and his warriors (including Craer and Hawkril of the Four) all being declared outlaw; a sophisticated, intelligent warrior and aesthete, Blackgult dabbled in spellcraft and collected many enchanted items, using their powers to wear another shape, wherein, as the seldom-seen bard Inderos Stormharp, Master Bard of Darsar, he's become famous as the greatest living bard of Asmarand, if not all Darsar.
BOWDRAGON, CATHALEIRA: sorceress and lover of Tharlorn of the Thunders (who called her "Cathlass"), the eldest, most skilled, and only female of his three young, eager, utterly loyal apprentices; ambitious, deeply in love with Tharlorn, and accomplished in magecraft, of a family (the Bow-dragons of Arlund) known for its sorcery.
BRITHRA: cook to, and sometime lover of, the wizard Bodemmon Sarr; a dark, quiet, calm, loyal, and capable woman purchased by him as a slave, and later freed into his service after his spells determined her loyalty.
BROSTOS, MAEGLA: Dowager-Baroness of Brostos, the recently deceased mother of Thanglar Brostos; an iron-willed, unlovely, deep-voiced, and prominently jowled woman (once unkindly described as "a barking dog that walks") who was the architect of most of the treaties, contracts, and agreements that have enriched Brostos (after
