the death of her husband, the Baron Thorlyn Brostos).

BROSTOS, THANGLAR: Baron (Lord) of Brostos, a coward when endangered, but otherwise a coldly efficient merchant trader and tax collector, ruler of one of the most prosperous baronies of all; a man with unruly black hair, a luxurious and fashionable wardrobe, and piercing brown eyes; gone to fat and increasingly fearful as Aglirta drifts towards war.

CALADASH, BRYLDAR: a haughty, quick-tempered, ambitious wizard of Sirlptar, allied with the Baron Adeln in conspiracy against the Risen King purely for personal gain; handsome but rude, with a nasal, sneering voice and an imperious manner; once accurately described by the mage Ingryl Ambelter as "fully half the wizard he thinks he is."

CARDASSA, ITHCLAMMERT: Baron (Great Lord) of Cardassa, severe in both manner and dress, and a miser (hence his nickname, "the Crow of Cardassa" or, less politely, "the Old Crow"), but a cultured, principled man who believes in laws and adhering to them.

CARTHEL, JOLYNTH: Factor (trade agent) of Sirlptar; slim, sarcastic, and swift-tempered; a perfumed, haughty dandy; the agent of Sirl merchants and moneylenders.

CASTLECLOAKS, HELGRYM: one of the most famous and well-regarded of bards in the Vale; a bearded, cautiously polite, wise and impressive man slain in The Kingless Land.

CASTLECLOAKS, RAULIN TILBAR: young would-be bard and son of the respected bard Helgrym Castlecloaks; briefly a companion to three of the Band of Four.

CODELMER, SARASPER: a healer and former courtier long in hiding in one of three beast shapes he can take: bat, ground snake, or (his most favored) the man-eating "wolf-spider" or longfangs; old, gruff, and homely; member of the Band of Four and friend to Craer when the latter first entered the service of the Baron Blackgult.

CORLOUN: Court Mage of Maerlin, arrogant and ambitious; creator of the Melted.

DARAGUS, INTHER: Factor (trade agent) of Gilth (an independent town formerly in the Barony of Brightpennant); an intelligent, vigorous man and longtime rival of Belklarravus of Sart.

Dark Three, the: a trio of evil, powerful, and treacherous wizards who served the Baron Faerod Silvertree; they all perished in The Kingless Land, and in descending order of rank, power, and age, were: Spellmaster Ingryl Ambelter, Klamantle Beirldoun, and Markoun Yarynd.

DARLASSITUR, OEN: House Wizard of Cardassa; a blond-bearded, green-eyed rogue and traitor, hired by the baron when a rising but still untried wizard ("charm-caster") of Sirlptar.

DATHGATH, KORSTYN: King of Aglirta, an ancient ruler now remembered only as a great warrior who rode a winged horse into battle, and loved his wine; statues and carvings of him show a hugely muscled, bare-armed, and helmless warrior.

DELCAMPER, FLAEROS: young bard, of the wealthy Delcamper merchant family of Ragalar, equipped when traveling with the Vodal, an enchanted ring that's an heirloom of the Delcampers and allows (among other things) its wearer to see through magical disguises and illusions.

DELDROUN, YISKER: an elderly former warrior in the service of Silvertree, where he was swordsorn (military officer equivalent to a sergeant) over Roldrick; stern, cold-eyed, and the owner of a bristling white moustache, a sharp tongue, and a very alert eye.

DELNBONE, CRAER: procurer (scout and thief) in the service of the Baron Blackgult; small, agile, clever-tongued member of the Band of Four and longtime friend and sword-companion of Hawkril Anharu, who often calls him "Longfingers."

DUTHJACK, SENDRITH "BLOODBLADE": charismatic warrior in the service of the Baron Blackgult who becomes the leader of an outlaw fighting band ("Bloodblade's Band"), whom he leads in a foray to slay the Risen King and put himself on the throne.

DYNDRIE, SAERLOR: royal factor (trade agent) in Sirlptar, one of two financial representatives of the Risen King stationed in the Glittering City (Theth Phlundrivval is the other); a pompous, handsome courtier of white-haired years whose importance is only outstripped by his ego and eyes for all passing ladies.
