When Ghosts Speak - Mary Ann Winkowski [18]
Sometimes I sense that people feel let down that having me come and talk to the ghost in their house just isn’t as exciting as they thought it might be. They’ll ask me to tell the ghost to do this thing or that. And when the ghost simply refuses to perform party tricks on command, some homeowners get downright disappointed with me! They don’t understand just how mundane a conversation with that earthbound spirit can be. From my perspective, encountering, talking to, and releasing earthbound spirits is all in a day’s work. For me, an encounter with a ghost isn’t like a scene from a Hollywood blockbuster. I don’t know how I’d be able to carry on a normal life if it were.
Today, in all forms of media, stories involving the living interacting with the spirit world are increasingly popular, and as a result I’ve noticed that there’s a ton of misinformation out there—behaviors, characteristics, or powers wrongly attributed to earthbound spirits—that people take as true.
Most people who contact me do have earthbound spirits in their homes, or have some type of negative energy attached to them. Usually when folks tell me they think there’s a ghost nearby, they aren’t able to pinpoint a single specific factor causing them to seek my help. More often than not, they’ve heard me talk on television or the radio about the types of problems that earthbound spirits can cause, and recognize exactly the kinds of problems they are currently having themselves. When I confirm for these people that ghosts are indeed around them, they usually say, “Well, I just thought there was something not quite right in the house.”
Other folks are completely convinced that they’re hosting an earthbound spirit and simply don’t believe me when I tell them that their houses are clear. These are the people who will argue endlessly with me: “But I know I have a ghost here because my house has cold spots/I hear chains rattling/I live near a cemetery/there are flies in the attic/my house is built on an old burial ground.”
In my fifty-plus years of seeing and communicating with earthbound spirits, I have adopted the philosophy Never say never. I don’t mind admitting that I may someday come upon spirits able to influence the environment in one of these specific ways. Maybe someday I will meet ghosts wrapped in chains who drag them along the floor and make rattling sounds when they walk. But so far in my experience, having flies in your attic doesn’t mean your house is haunted. It probably means you have holes in your window screens.
I can understand why people want to blame their problems on ghosts. It’s a simple explanation. They expect that if they call me, I’ll come take away the negative energy and remove the earthbound spirit. And in fact, when the problem is related to an earthbound spirit, the solution is just that simple. But that’s not always the case.
The bottom line is: Sometimes, bad things happen to good people. You cannot blame everything that goes wrong in your life on ghosts. The people who do this are the people I feel bad for. I wonder: What did they do in their past life that they are so miserable in this one? But as much as I’d like to, if there’s no spirit or negative energy around these folks, there’s really nothing I can do to help. And even when I can make a difference, clearing out an earthbound spirit or negative energy doesn’t mean the home-owners will go out and win the lottery the next day. All that clearing a house does is give you a level playing field so that you are not held back by bad energies or earthbound spirits.
Earthbound Spirits and Physical Presence
Ghosts Do Not Draw Energy from Your TV or Other Electrical Devices
Many people who do have ghosts in their house report temperamental electronic devices: computers that crash, TVs or cell phones plagued by static, or flickering lights. While these mechanical disruptions can be evidence of the presence of an earthbound spirit, the fact that
