When Ghosts Speak - Mary Ann Winkowski [19]
Ghosts do need energy, of course, because they consist of pure energy. They have no physical body, they don’t eat, they don’t sleep, but they need energy to survive. But not mechanical energy, like the electrical current that powers your computer. The energy ghosts seek out does not have a material form or substance. It is metaphysical. Consider this: People have constant currents of both physical and emotional energy. Your physical energy can be measured by tests such as CAT scans, or MRIs, or using sensors. Your emotional energy, however, is a bit harder to quantify. But it is every bit as real as—and often has a direct effect on—your physical energy. Emotional changes cause your body to react. Think about when a person gets angry, for instance: His blood pressure goes up, his heart rate increases, his whole energy changes.
How many times have you described yourself or someone else as “having a low-energy day”? Or explained your feeling of unease about a stranger by saying she had “negative energy”? Or complimented someone on having a “high-energy” personality? This kind of emotional energy is also easily transferable. You may feel sad and exhausted after a funeral where you spent your time talking with many of the mourners. Or you may feel energized after seeing a funny or exciting movie. Once you understand the concept of the energy fields that we all carry with us, you can begin to understand what kinds of people and situations are the most likely to attract earthbound spirits.
Now to go back to the flickering lights, crashing computer, and static-filled cell phone for a moment: If a ghost is pure energy and stands next to something that is using another source of energy, doesn’t it make sense that one might interfere with the other in some way—maybe at the source of the energy, in the wiring, or with the machine itself? It’s not too difficult for earthbound spirits to realize that if they stand next to your computer, it’s likely to crash. And the same ghosts quickly notice that when your computer crashes, you go ballistic. And when you go ballistic, the ghosts get a very satisfying surge of energy. How often do you think these ghosts will stand next to your computer when you’re working hoping for a quick energy fix?
Ghosts Cannot Draw Energy from Other Earthbound Spirits
Ghosts need the emotional, metaphysical energy generated by the living to fuel their existence; they cannot draw this energy from other earthbound spirits. In fact, when one ghost comes into a room to find that another ghost is already there, generally one or the other of them will turn around and leave. If you have multiple spirits in your home, you can be sure that they all gravitate to different areas of the house. They don’t sit around playing cards with one another all day. The exception to this is if the ghosts are gathered in high-energy places such as theaters, where a crowd of the living generates more than enough energy.
When ghosts cannot get enough energy, they become lethargic and generally head off in search of a source. Only once have I encountered a ghost who seemed to have gone dormant. When a family began renovating an old farmhouse, the former owner came out with a fury. While the energy generated by the workers tearing out the cabinets may have initially revived her—certainly enough to mess up almost every project they began and to set the contractor months behind schedule—she wasted no time in causing huge arguments between the husband and wife who owned the home. Because of the extensive work needed, they were not living in the farmhouse during renovation. Every time they visited the work site to see how things were progressing, they had a huge blowup. Even if they had agreed while driving over that they were going to most certainly, definitely, absolutely tell the contractor to go with the slate floor, after they’d been in the house for only a few minutes, they found themselves arguing over whether the
