Ghosts Among Us - James Van Praagh [56]
The redhead went on to say that she had spent so many tedious hours designing her apartment. Now it looks so blah, she said sadly.
As we walked around the offices, Lucy continued. I horse around with the current occupants. It’s my way of having fun. Sometimes I’ll just knock some papers off the desk and open and close the door to the office.
As proof of this, I asked the office worker if such things had occurred. The young man was a little spooked by the information. He nervously chuckled and agreed. “Yes, papers do fly off my desk for no reason, and there have been occasions when the door would open by itself, and no one is here but me.”
“It’s Lucy!” I told him with excitement in my voice. “She comes here to check on the studio that she helped build. She is saying that she has had so many happy memories here.”
With her own unique flare, Lucy ended the conversation. Why wouldn’t I come back here to relive the best years of my life?
Although ghosts usually frequent places connected to their past, I have also found that some haunt a place to which they have no emotional ties. Sometimes ghosts choose a particular environment—whether a place, an experience, or a person—because something about it calls to them. On the other hand, they may have wanted to be a part of a particular environment when alive but were never given the opportunity.
For instance, there are many ghosts who have always had the desire to be onstage, so they haunt a theater to “live out” that experience. Ghosts may also be fans of a particular actor, so they hang out with that actor to fulfill that desire. I have several acting clients who frequently tell me that there are always ghosts around them. When I ask a ghost why he or she does this, the reply is usually, I’m here to help so-and-so with her part.
I have communicated with ghosts who had been quite patriotic, and when they passed over, they headed straight to where the military was fighting in order to help the troops. It was their way of being of service to their country.
GHOSTS GO CLUBBING
Earthbound ghosts often go to places where there is an abundance of human energy. The first place that quickly comes to mind is a bar or club where alcohol is served. It seems that the more wasted the clientele is, the more easily ghosts can attach themselves. As mentioned, individuals in an inebriated state are susceptible to ghostly attachments because alcohol depletes their protective auric field. It’s like letting down their guard.
I remember several years ago when I was in Minneapolis for a demonstration. After it was over, I thought I could unwind with a drink at one of the local bars. First of all, let me point out that anytime I am in an unfamiliar city I always do my protection ritual, because I never know if ghosts will be lurking about. The hotel concierge gave Kelley, my assistant, the name of a popular local bar that was a special hangout on Sunday nights. As Kelley and I walked to the bar, we noticed many boarded-up buildings; with a scarcity of stores, the streets were dimly lit. I said to Kelley, “I feel very weird. The energy around here feels dark and eerie. Make sure you build a wall of protection around yourself.”
The instant Kelley and I walked into the club we were hit by the negative energy. The smell of mold and bleach filled the air and our nostrils. “This place is a pit,” I said. With each step we took to the second floor, I felt worse. When we reached the dance floor, neither of us could see much through the flashing spotlights and neon signs. People seemed to be in a frenzied state as they tried to capture the rhythm of the blasting beat.
Although seeing people was difficult, seeing ghosts was not. The place was filled with them. Dark shadows followed people around, and dark figures crowded into corners. Some ghosts sat alongside people at the bar enjoying the pleasures of vodka martinis and tequila shots. Then I saw something I had never seen before. Sitting in a booth on the other side of the room was a very intoxicated young woman leaning over a table. Two ghosts sat next
