Celestial Connection
Do you have difficulty thinking about time as elastic? Time acceleration or deceleration is a foreign concept, and yet it happens all the time. In Calleman’s pyramid, each cycle is 20 times faster than the one before. The amount that has to be thought about and acted on in a short space doesn’t seem to relate to actual clock time. It’s a strange but real experience. Time is anything but static. Have you ever been in an accident? Did you experience time slowing down as you had nanoseconds to respond? Everything becomes extra slow, allowing thoughts and action “time” to prevail. Or when you’re totally engrossed in something, time seems to disappear. We could say that “time” is a variable experience.
Resonance
Resonance, or “sympathetic vibration,” is a central Mayan concept. In the Mayan timekeeping system, humans are connected to the celestial universe and the dimension of time through resonance with cycles of 13, 20, and 260. This is accomplished through vibration. In this case, the magic Mayan numbers establish a vibration that resonates with the human body and we become connected to the spiritual cycles of the Tzolk’in.
You have probably experienced resonance with a musical instrument. For instance, if you have a piano or harp and strike the middle C note, all the strings for other C notes in different octaves will vibrate. If you hit the note hard enough, you will be able to hear this. Only the C strings vibrate, not all the other strings, because the other strings are tuned to different notes. This is resonance, things that are sympathetic to each other vibrating together.
The entire Mayan calendar system is based on the resonance of cycles and time dimensions. By tuning in to the calendars, you are tuning in to the soul transformation underway.
Evolution of the Soul
You might remember from Chapter 2 that there are three different realms of creation: the heavens, the earth, and the underworld. The realm of the underworld is divided into nine levels. Calleman believes the nine levels of the underworld and the nine evolutionary cycles on the stele are the same. The evolution of the underworlds marks the evolution of soul and consciousness.
What if the realms of creation are metaphors for states of consciousness? Then they take on a whole new meaning. In fact, Calleman suggests the trip up the pyramid steps is a trip through the development of consciousness. When the platform is reached, transformation occurs. Tuning in to the calendar’s resonance assists individual transformation.
We’re on the eighth step of the pyramid on the countdown (or up) to Calleman’s date of 2011. When we reach the ninth step, we will be in complete resonance with the Tzolk’in calendar and in resonance with spiritual cycles. For the next 260 days, we will accelerate to meet the new age.
Celestial Connection
Imagine if every metaphor you used was taken literally. For example, astronomers talk about the movement of the solar system across the galactic plane as a carousel. When an astronomer talks about the “carousel in the sky,” it’s understood the metaphor is describing the pattern of movement. No one really thinks the solar system is attached to a carousel that pumps them up, down, and around in circles in the sky. Yet we take literally every metaphor ancient cultures used. We assume the Maya believed the earth was flat because of the metaphor they used.
End Date
Whether you use the end date of 2011 or 2012, whether you believe this is the fourth age or the fifth age, the message is the same. We are coming to the end of an epoch. The cycle that is ending was focused on a split between the spiritual and material worlds. The result has been technical and material growth with a loss of connection to the sacred essence residing within matter.
